Will Mk4 Rear view Mirror fit Mk3.5?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __mk3.5
  2. I’m based near: __East Midlands
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __rear view mirror

My mk3.5 rear view mirror has cracked glass and I want to replace. There seems to be a some differently coded versions. Mine is 015617. It seems to be a generic item sold to a number of car manufacturers.

Looking at new, I noticed the mk4 on mx5 parts is much cheaper, even less than second hand mk3 prices, and looks almost the same fitment but hard to tell online.

Has anyone tried fitting a mk4 to a mk3?

Thanks

How difficult is it to fit a rear view mirror? Mine is delaminating and on MX-5 parts the Mk4 mirror is only £22.

To remove is it a case of dental floss and isopropyl alcohol, or is heat needed too?

Also similar to the OP’s point, are there any non-Mazda ones folks could recommend? I found the Mk4 shakes a bit with the car, and obviously not great quality as it’s delaminated and cleaning clothes have become stuck under the rim before.

On the mk3 it just pulls off, leaving the fitting on the screen that it clips to.

If your mk4 mirror shakes maybe that is why they are cheap and I should avoid after all. I wouldn’t say mine shakes, but has had a whack in the past.

Mine didn’t vibrate to start with, but it’s 7 years old now and I’ve probably whacked it a couple of times. The thing that annoys me more is the delamination, it looks very unsightly. I am guessing for the Mk4 mirror the fitting needs to come off as well even when replacing like-for-like/

Rear View Mirror, Manual Dimming, MX5 Mk4 & RF £20 certainly beats £60 for the Mk3 version!

In the pic on mx5 parts the fitting looks almost the same so I would be surprised if it comes off any different. As I said in my first post many mirrors seem to be sold to a number of manufacturers and they all show the same fitting. They look like they should come off with a bit pressure just like the mk3
