Wind-blocker fitting for NA

Hi guys,

I recently bought a wind-blocker off ebay to go with my NA as my wife complains it ruins her hair when driving with the roof down…Yell Anyway, the seller said it’s a stock wind-blocker from NB but would fit a NA retrospectively. I’m struggling to fit it as my car has a stock brace bar that gets in the way but I don’t really want to remove the bar, and I also think the wind-breaker is not hight enough to effectively block out any wind anyway. Anyone has any ideas before I return it? Do you guys have a wind breaker fitted and where did you get it from?

Thanks as always.Tongue Out

It would help if you posted a picture for starters, but I don’t think you can keep the brace bar with a windblocker, remove that and your problem may well be solved.

I have a fold down mesh wind blocker which works well with the brace bar fitted to my car. It looks from the photo as though it is leaning backwards, is that how it is supposed to fit? It would be taller fitted upright if possible. Sure someone with one fitted will be of help soon.

I had some brackets made that use the seatbelt tower bolt, so my brace bar stays

Happy to email you some pictures if it helps you

Darren

I’ve got a windblocker from MX5 parts which fits OK with the bracing bar ( http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/classic-windblocker-p-137.html ). Unfortunately I can’t view the pictures you posted for some reason so can’t see what you have got. I will post a picture of mine over the weekend if it helps.

I have a Mk1is with brace bar. Wind blocker fits great, it’s a very useful piece of kit

Hi Darren, yes, it’d be great to see how you fit yours. Is your wind-blocker same as mine? my email: y_nancn@hotmail.com

thanks

Neal

Hi, how did you manage to fit yours? Is your wind-blocker same as mine? thanks, Neal

From the photo your windblocker doesn’t look as tho it’s fitted how it should be.  Would it fit in front of the brace bar rather than behind?

However, I have the OEM Mazda version like yours on my Mk 2.5 and I don’t find it very effective. As you say, it doesn’t seem high enough.

Most of the aftermarket mesh ones I have seen in photos look a good couple of inches higher between the seats.

You could maybe experiment by trying to prop it up a bit higher and more vertically, to see what height works best, then either fix it like that or get another one to suit.

thanks for the reply. The windblocker has not been fitted yet from the photos as the brace bar is in the way and I only place the windblocker next to the brace bar so you can see where I am struggling at. I have tried to place it in front of and behind the brace bar but could not mange to secure it and I don’t really want to drill any holes onto the car…

I have a windblocker from MX5 Parts and it does seem to sit higher than yours. It came with some mounting brackets

and sits right up around the headrests

cheers Mike. Do you have a link to the windbreaker you ordered? for some reason, I cant see the second picture you attached.

One of these as per my earlier post: http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/classic-windblocker-p-137.html

Yes that’s the one I have.

I have just become the owner of a mk 1 1997 and have purchased a used original Mazda windblocker the car has bar in place as your photo I was under the impression it should be fitted in front not behind the bar .Can anyone advise what size bolts I need to get to fix to the existing holes in the cowling once the plastic plugs have been removed
Thanks Paul

Hi - I’m just doing the same with my 1997 Mk 1 - did you manage to find out what size bolts to use for the existing holes? Thanks Matt

You won’t be able to fit an NB factory wind blocker correctly to the pre-drilled holes with the cabin brace in place. The holes are an M6 thread and a hole that will need a big self tapper or an M6 nut and bolt.
