Wind Screen Drain Holes

Hi all

Only two months in to my MX5 ownership but I am loving every minute

Mine is 06 Mk3 1.8L, what I have noticed a couple of times when it rains really heavily, a small amount of water drips into the passenger foot well

Could the drainage holes in the rubber along the top of the wind screen be blocked, if so could any one give any advice on how un- block it, it does only seem to happen when in heavy rain

Common problem. Have a look in DOWNLOADS S: BODY etc. Fix is staightforward and described there.

Hi Trollface

Thank you, it’s good to know it is a common problem and an easy fix

I would recommend you get this done at the earliest possible opportunity…in a recent case the owner had problems with the starter motor & headlights, burnt out the starter motor, lights kept coming on & going off independently etc…he replaced the starter motor without knowing what was causing the problem and a few days later was having issues again !

It really is a very easy job, should only take about 30-40 mins…might be worth buying some new screw covers before you start as they tend to break when removed from the windscreen scuttle.

Hi bk65

Thank you, I will look in to this as soon as I can

I do keep the car garaged 90% of the time, but if I leave it, it won’t fix itself so I will get it sorted

What irritates me most is that this is a common fault on the mk3 or NC, but Mazda has never provided a fix over it’s 10 year model life.

Pretty easy fix, takes about an hour, maybe longer if you wait for the silicone to set.

Remove the wiper arms, remove the plastic scuttle panel, and seal the plastic screw posts with silicone.

Although I never tried, it may be possible to seal them without actually removing the panel completely… ???

One thing to be aware of though, there a high likelyhood that the plastic blanking covers on either side of the scuttle panel may snap when you try to get them out.

These are available on MX5 Parts for a few quid each.

Stevieh, you are right, you would think that they could have come up with a solution to solve this problem in ten years

Thank you Keat63, I will be having a look
