Window cable has snapped :( what will i need and how to fix it?

Hey,

So a couple of days ago I went to wind the Window down and it just went and the winder just kept spinning around with nothing happening thankfully the window stayed up and doesn’t drop down much which is a relief, I’ve hard the door card off and the cable was incredibly rusty and has snapped. What do I need i looked on mx5parts.co.uk and there’s a long cable and a short do i need both or something else entirely aswell or what?

The car is a 1997 mk1

Just needed to know what i need :)

Cheers,Jack

hey Jack, when mine broke I replaced the long/short cables & the drum. dont think its worth replacing just the broken cable because the other will probably break anyway.
there is a lot of stuff on here to read about. different opinions on what to replace, start here; http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_postst194_Electric-Windows---Stuck.aspx
hope your hands are small cos there aint much room in there

I think the replacement cables are for electric windows, when manual ones go I think it’s a case of replacing the complete unit.

OOPS.

sorry, misread the post.

Contact Autolink they will have what you need.

Ahh it never said on the parts page, I Just thought that was the cable for manual windows this is what I was on about.

The manual regulators are not serviceable; they start to stiffen up. Inside the regulator, is a tightly wound clock spring. Its near impossible to put the thing back together. The newest used regulator is now over 20 years old.

The cable snapped on my Mk1 Eunos driver’s side and I fitted a new regulator today as I had read that its easier to do that than to renew the cables.

Got mine from MX5 Heaven for around £75 including delivery, took around 2 hours from start to finish to fit.

Fairly straightforward job.
