Also, might get a better deal buying in Japan (my last laptop was from America through eBay Global Shipping, even with import fees I saved £500, and it was a 1-2 years before a laptop of the same specifications even made it to the UK - and cost UK buyers around £1200

Check Laptop Station. They sell refurbished laptops at great prices.
I’m using an HP one at the moment that I got from them. Many of their laptops have upgraded memory and you can choose to further upgrade. Mine was in better condition than described and it’s been a great machine.
Think I paid about half the price of a new one and I’m really impressed with the quality and service.
