windscreen cowl screw grommets

Hi

Would like to fit new windscreen cowl screw grommets as I have a bit of water on the mat under the glove box

which I understand is a sign of the grommets letting water in,

I’m sure I have seen a “how to do” on this but cannot seem to find it.

can someone point me in the right direction please.

Cheers

hi ned
easy. just doing mine tomorrow
the plastic cowl is held in by 2 screws under pop off plastic covers. the 2 grommets from mx5parts are about 3.40 each
remove wiper arms first
this will help. i think it’s page 5.

You don’t necessarily have to replace the grommets to seal the leak, I did read somewhere that you need to be careful not to damage the paint if you decide to remove the grommet as this then makes the whole job more time consuming to prevent subsequent corrosion.

I just applied a reasonable amount of Fernox LSX ( it likes the damp) around the grommet and into the thread , it’s not leaked since. I did however replace the hole cover.

The driver’s side I left alone and has remained leak free.

you are absolutely right steve but I am doing both the grommets & silicon sealer as well just to be sure.
no way do i want water in there again.
plus, the grommets are cheap as chips.
