Windscreen scratch removal

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __ND
  2. I’m based near: __WV
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Scratched glass

Well today I decided to wash my car, pulled out of the garage and left the rain to pre wash, dry weather was coming. So once it was dry out I moved the car and popped the wipers on, SCREEEEEEEEECH. A tiny sharp brick has put a scratch deep arced into the glass directly at eye level drivers side. It’s about 15 inches long and I did try removing it with cape cod, managed to get about a third of it out but beyond that it’s too deep.
So, has anyone successfully had a scratch polished out of a screen like this? :man_facepalming:t3:

Ouch…

You might do it with cerium oxide and a machine polisher, but be careful not to overheat the glass. It all depends on how deep the scratch is best of luck.

Yeah I’m not overly hopeful. At least if it overheats and explodes it’s a replacement and only costs my glass excess.

If you can feel the scratch with a finger nail then generally it’s too deep to polish out with anything including the coarse abrasive discs sold on flea bay for glass polishing.
New windscreen.
Just get a stone and throw it at the screen, then claim.
There’s nothing like a new screen and wiper blades anyway.
