wing / bumper removal help

I’m sure this question has been asked lots of time before but has anybody got a good / easy way of getting the bolts off which hold the wing to the bumper?

I’ve located and removed most of the others, the ones along the bottom of the bumper are just spinning and not coming off but I can get round that, some have snapped too but again i can get round that i guess, just the ones holding the bumper to the wing are awkward and look pretty well rusted on…

Also does anywhere sell a bolt replacement kit for the wings and bumper?

Thanks in advance

The main fixing between the front wing and bumper is a steel plate with 2 x M6 threaded studs.

When you look under the front wing you’ll see the 2 x M6 nuts (10mm head) that fit this plate.

If you are lucky they will undo with a load of penetrating fluid like Plus Gas. More than likely at least one of the studs will snap off.

The plate will be attached to the bumper when you remove it.

Hi Hilli,
I removed both of my Mk1 front wings last year to check for corrosion, thankfully there was very little.
Most of the bolts were rusty and it was a bit of a struggle as I did not remove the front bumper first, just removed the top bolts and eased it forward to clear the studs already mentioned. When I came to replace everything I just bought a pack of fifty 6mm stainless flanged nuts and bolts from a well known auction site for about £10. The two at the bottom of the wing where it joins the sill had rusted out on one side and sheared off, when I tried to drill them out they just disappeared into the sill. Luckily I own a lathe so managed to make some new attachment points in aluminium which I screwed and glued into place. Problem solved and I even managed to create a space for water to drain out of the water trap.
The remaining bolts/nuts have slowly been used to replace other rusty ones like the under tray and wheel arch liners, it’s amazing how many 6mm fastenings the Mazda uses, I am on my second pack of 50 so far.
Hope this helps and good luck with the job

Thanks for the replies. I’ve found the plate in question and the nuts are well rusted in place, I haven’t attempted to remove them yet though.

I’ll update when I’ve had chance to carry on with it
