Wing mirror adjustment clicking but not moving left/right

Hi all,

I am very new here so apologies if i get things in the wrong places.

I have an MX-5 MK3 NC 1.8 2006 which has a problem with the wing mirror electric adjustment mechanism.

When using the arrow pad to move the mirrors left or right, they do not move and just click repeatadly. However, they move up and down perfectly fine.

What could be causing this?

I have tried to push the mirrors in one directions all the way to see if they were just pushed out to far the other way, but no luck.

I appreciate your replies!

Thank you,
Liam

Pretty sure electric mirrors are just driven from basic dc motors with a series of light duty plastic gears. Sounds like the motor is spinning, but the gears that drive the linkage to move the mirror are skipping.

Crack open your wing mirror and look for broken gear teeth, something jammed in the gears, or the drive motor shifting around from not being properly fixed in place. Any of these could cause the gears to skip, which would explain it clicking and not moving.

Same happed on my previous car (EP3). Spraying behind the mirror with some WD40 sorted it out.

Thanks both, I will try and take a look at the wd40 approach and if that does not work… Time to open it up!
Cheers.

Get one with door mirrors. Much easier to use than wing mirrors.
