Wing Mirror choice

 Hi, Hello, Guten tag.

 

I am toying with the idea of replacing my wing mirrors for something a little less common. Any ideas?? Any mirrors from other marques that may fit my MK1?

I have just had a new pair put on my M5 Harvard. I purchased them on eBay. They are stainless steel with chrome finish . They cost about £129.00 . When I manage to work out how to post pictures of my car you can view how they look if want.I happen to think they look bloody good.But everybody is different.I haven’t seen another car on the road with them .So if your going after different ,then your sure to like these .

 Some KG Works mirrors just gone on Ebay…Wont be cheap though!

KG Works mirrors are like the rest; cheap £20 rusted, pitted generic mirrors on over priced  adapters. For that reason, I made my own.

 

After a bit of research, I discovered that the much vaunted Runabout M2 mirrors were in fact supplied by Tex Automotive of Oxford, and are a variant of their “Evolution” mirror, which costs less than £50 a pair, rather than the £400 demanded by Runabout.

 

I made polished aluminium plinths, using a £5 block of aluminium, and a couple of weekends, to enable fitment of the Evolution  mirror, which uses a Mini-fitment base.

I had Runabout M2s on my M2-1002 roadster. The Evolutions are much the same; lousy as far as usefulness as mirrors go. All bullet chrome mirrors will lead to a restriction in view compared to factory mirrors. Obviously, a preferable solution  would have been to persuade Tex that they would sell a lot more of their mirrors by providing proper MX5-fitment Evolutions to UK MX5 owners, rather than the chancers at Runabout in Japan.
