I am a new member and just boughtĀ my firstĀ new MX 5 2019 , do you have advice for Winter care, I donāt have a garage and want to protect soft top, do you have any advice on covers etc and the best and cheapest suppliers for these , I have seen some range in prices, the dealership gave me a free external and internal protection when I bought it, all advice on keeping it good welcome. I am still waiting on my manual as it had to be ordered , apparently this doesnāt come as standard and it needs to be requested!, This came from Mazda Directly not the dealership.
Dont skimp on this one thats my advice as my mk2 paintwork suffered big time with a cheep one - this ended up being 100 % my fault passed by it numerious times with wind blowing full size cover, up, down, side to side⦠Eventually when it blew into next doors garden the lovely black gloss was flattened down to the primerā¦
Ended up with a nightmare of a job to sort, cars still at side of house with only the hood type cover which seams to be better for the wind tunnel area I live in. Oh I forgot to mention - Even when I rebolted full cover down down with ratchet straps the winter wind still got under it - blew it like a parachute putting on more damage to paint.
Get a good quality tight to the car breathable one or build a garage
Thanks, I am planning on using it through winter so I was thinking more of a roof/windscreen cover and any other protection I can get, I donāt have the option of a garage and have to park it on the road
I asked a similar questionĀ a short while ago as we wanted something to just protect the soft top when not in use. It was recommended that we get the oneĀ for the Mk4 as advertised on the MX 5 parts website. Will be ordering one once I can sort out the delivery dates etc.
What I have used you can find it on the link below. I am using it since last November, mostly during the summer though ???.
Itās one of the best products that I have ever bought, regardless of the car. You can also use it overnight during the winter, the next morning the windscreen and windows will be so clean and ice free. Totally recommend it.
Old bed sheets, Iāve got two that I use. Mrs A has just washed them ready for winter use. A must, put them on a clean car, itāll stay clean keeps the dust off, you can wash them periodically too.
Our garage isnāt heated and even with ābreathableā fitted covers I found in certain conditions through winter condensation forming and being trapped underneath on bodywork, and one year had mould form on inside of roof.
Old cotton bed sheets, keep dust off, donāt trap moisture, and if get damp due to dripping condensation have a couple of spares to swap whilst others are washed/dried.
I use a Prestige Cabrioshield hood cover having previously used cheap ones. The Prestige version is fully fitted and does not flap in winds. and protects the window seal and hood drains. If it increases the life of the hood by 5 years it has more than paid for itself.
