Has anyone any experience in trying to get one to work?
I have the Bluetooth connected between the dongle and my phone but the option to use Android is still greyed out in the car so it appears the car can not see the dongle. I have tried with two phones both with recent operating versions.
Any help appreciated before I bin it.
Not sure if the Mazda system is the same but when I wanted to use wireless AA in my SEAT Leon I needed to have the wifi and bluetooth connected at the same time.
( Something about bluetooth only not having enough capacity )
Have you tried completely deleting the phone from the car and the car from the phone and starting the pair process again ?
( IE - with the phone NOT paired to the car - start the wireless AA link process )
I’ve an iPhone and that is usually fine but now and again a cold reboot fixes any connection issues. I’ve read Android phones are more likely to need cold reboots if any apps auto update or if there is an android update. It’s like the the old IT answer…“Have you tried turning it off and on?”. It does fix the majority of minor issues!
Thank you both for the help, I will give it another go later in the week using your guidance.
In my Mini the wireless Apple CarPlay connects over Wi-Fi. Try browsing available wireless networks on your phone to see if the dongle is providing an access point. Also, if your phone is connected to another Wi-Fi network (like your house) then it won’t connect to your car (and vice versa).
I have a dongle that I use in my Skoda. It didn’t work with my old phone, that did work via a cable, but does wirelessly with my new phone. From what I can make out the dongle I have needs 5G wifi (not 5G mobile signal) and my old phone only worked on 2.4G. Check your phone can use 5G wifi.
Using this one on my ND2 and OnePlus Open Android phone: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B71XC7VG
When I first tried to use it, I was unfortunate enough that there was a bug in the firmware they’d posted the day before, so ended up banging my head against the wall trying to get it working. A couple of days later, newer firmware fixed it entirely - and now it works very reliably. It gets regular updates and is rather tweakable via it’s android app.
I’d recommend removing any existing bluetooth pairing from both the car and your phone - before switching the car off, connecting dongle to car, turning on the car and finally connecting the phone.
Previously tried one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B1Q5DDNY which kinda worked - but would fail to connect about 20% of the time, and had some weird screen scaling going on. Got the feeling it was pretending to be an iPhone to the car.
Many thanks for all your help, all of which has led me to believe that it requires a 5G wifi signal which it appears neither of our phones will do.
I told my lap top to look for 5g signals and I could then see and connect to the dongle over wifi. Neither phone will see the dongle and I see no option for them to look for 5g signals.
Conclusion is that next time we buy a mobile I will look for a 5g capability in the specifications.
Age and technology are not an easy mix as those of our younger views will find out in due course!!!
Maybe not if they grow up with it…
I’m using this:
Very pleased with it, has always connected.
I see it uses 5g wifi so is the same as the one I have therefor it will not work for me as our phones do not support this.
