Wireless android auto double din recommendations for Mk1

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 1990 Eunos
  2. I’m based near: Harlow, Essex
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Double din radio with wireless android auto

Hi all,

Looking for double din radio recommendations that have wireless android auto.
Would like to go for well know brands such as Sony, Pioneer, JVC or Kenwood.
Ideally also a physical button or wheel for volume but not a requirement as I’m sure I’d get used to it as I use touchscreen infotainment during my job.

I currently have a single din Sony fitted but wanted to upgrade so I can access my spotify and nav because I don’t like phone holders blocking my view or the air vents.

Just want to get some reviews of current ones on offer at places such as Halfords or reputable online places for easy interface and how bad the sun glare is with roof down.

The Kenwood DMX7722DABS, JVC KW-M785DBW or Sony XAV-AX4050 seem to look quite nice but if anyone has any other recommendation I’d welcome them.

Thanks.

I’ve bought the JVC units in the past for my Mk3, very nice units and fit well. Same goes for the Pioneer units, again fitment and all round usability is very good.
If I were buying again I think I’d look at the JVC ones first, the one I bought had a better adjustment scale for the screen, as in you can adjust the colour side of things which helps with glare when the top is down.
We are talking around 5 years ago since I bought the JVC unit and around 3 years ago since I bought a Pioneer unit. The Pioneer I swapped out the JVC for
was a wireless unit, so no plugging in any cables, only if you want to charge your phone, you still get a USB flylead with them.
Much has probably changed since I fitted one, they update the models constantly it’s mostly the same sizes and screen sizes stay the same.
Also JVC is now JVC/Kenwood so your probably getting similar units if you buy one or the other branded units.
Can’t help with fitting for a Mk1, although I owned a Mk1 I never got involved in removing head units, the centre console is easily removed you just need to find if needed a fitting kit.
Dynamic sounds are a good go to place online for all the kit including the head units but do take into consideration such places as Halfords for deals or the usual shopping online places. I also think Halfords don’t accept the OC discount voucher on tech, it used to be the case, so buying from there will not give a discount only tools, parts and oil etc.

Thank you for your advice.
Especially for Dynamic sounds as I hadn’t heard of them but have come up frequently when I search for double din radios.

The JVC interface does look nice. Just got to check what wiring adaptors I may need and start saving!

Check your aperture as it may not be 2 DIN, my Eunos needed an adaptor as it was slightly bigger - gap was pre-DIN

Thanks. Pretty sure I will need it as think it has a single din only adapter in there at the moment for my current radio
