Wiring diagram for ECU connections for a 96 mk1 1800

We got a great used MX-5 in March, the second one we’ve had.  It is year 2001 1.6.  In April the car wouldn’t start and we were told it was the crankshaft sensor. We got another fitted and the car worked fine - for 2-3 weeks. Then it wouldn’t start again. It went to 2 Mazda dealers who both gave the same diagnosis of ECU fault and said that ours couldn’t be mended. They said we needed to buy the ECU, pcm immobiliser and keys . New, they both quoted £2,600 to include labour and VAT. Lunacy - the car isn’t worth that much but the engine is great and the condition of the car is mint. The dealerships said the other option is to get used parts but they would all have to be from the same RUNNING car that would be compatible with ours.  Our ECU part number is B6MU 18881B 279700 1242. This is Lunacy. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack and for some reason we seem to have the rarest part in the universe. Can someone out there in the Owners Club please help???

Can anyone help with a wiring diagram for the ecu connections? im trying to trace an problem with overfueling when hot but cant get the led to flash any codes so wat to try and trace the sensor signals back to the ecu and see if anything is amiss. thanks

This guy on ebay has one but the idiot seems to be selling it without the keys and the immobiliser so if that is so it is scrap.

The easy way to do the job is to remove the four 14mm bolts from the passenger seat you need a 6 sided socket as they tend to be tight.

Remove the seat

Lift the carpet have you had flooding and or are the rear drain holes clear.

With a dremmel, a mains powered one, grind off the two anti tamper fittings and change out the ecu. Then find the imobiliser under the steering columb after removeing the small plastic tray.

Then take the new ecu keys to Timpsons and get two key cut with your old actual shape but get the electronic numbers of your new ecu keys and get them to write that to the electonic chip in the keys you just have cut.

According to the scrap yard who are selling this it is from a 1.8 which I think is wrong.

I suggest you get a look at your ecu and get the numbers off it to make sure you have been given the correct parts number.

pm or email me if you want to talk as this stuff can blow your head so it may be better to talk this over on the phone. Yes I have already done this job.

There is a company that will reflash your ecu to reduce the high fuel delivery problem I will try and find a link for you.
