- My model of MX-5 is: __nc1
- I’m based near: __
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __
- just as it says. I believe the standard is 48? Thanks…
NC OEM wheels are a 55 offset.
Would be fine to run an ET40, although might look a little odd if the car is running a standard suspension ride height.
So if the 40 offset wheel is the same width, it would stick out 15mm further.
16" wheels are 6.5" wide.
Thanks Wardy! They sounded too good to be true anyway.
All depends on width as stated. You need a calculator to work it out most easily https://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator . I have et42 on a 17x8 inch wheel on the nc3 and no issues. These are 26mm further out with a 215/45 tyre and lowered.
That looks a better solution than the (surprisingly expensive) addition of spacers, if you are changing wheels anyway. Spacers must add a lot of unsprung weight?
I’ve added the calculator to my MX5 Book of useful links. Thanks.
No problem .
I weighed the wheels with tyres against a standard set of nc 17s and the weight gain was 200g per corner (17kg new vs 16.8kg originals) Not bad for an inch wider wheel with a larger tyre.
That’s quite a result! I’m more looking for feel. I’ve got more than enough grip for my level of skill!
