ZSport - MX5 - MK3

Thinking of the above car, they are now 3 years old and coming to the market in some numbers.

I did fancy a Montana … but they are a little old and hard to find in good condition now.

The ZSports are now getting into second owners hands … I’m a summer driver only, so it will be a toy.

Thinking that the residuals on a Limited Edition, such as this would remain strong for the next few years … and gradually become rarer?

Your thoughts?

I agree the ZSport is a direct successor to the Montana. I’ve always fancied one. The only thing I would miss is my hard top which has just come off this weekend. I put it on usually for 4 months Nov-Feb and find the car turns into a coupe for the bad weather and I rarely miss not being able to drop the roof.

I got my Montana Dinitrol protected 4 years ago and it has done the world of good to the underside compared to my last MX5. At nearly 8 years old the Montana is not in top perfect condition due to a few minor scratches in the paint, but it would be a lot cheaper than a ZSport if you could find one like mine. It would probably cost you about £5,000

Roof is now off, car is waxed and I’m lapping up that sun:

I would love to find a Racing Green model like yours … I can only find the Garnet Red - isn’t that strange?

Come to think of it, my car may be rare as last year the dealership asked for it to go in the showroom on a 20th MX5 Birthday event:

 Excellent!!!

I had a peep this morning at the prices:

Strauans Motor Village £10,495 with 39,461 miles,

Dovercourt Approved £11,995 with 13,855 miles,

Hollbrook Cars £12,495 with 13,245 miles

All trade sales and way too expensive. I couldn’t find any private sellers.

I think you will find that they are selling at those prices … which is quite staggering really.

Correction to the above … they are not actually selling at these prices - only the very top ones are - one in Romford Mazda with 3,000 miles on it went quite quickly. It had a screen price of £11,990 (not sure how close to that they managed to achieve).

I have just seen that there is one for sale in good condition in the back of STHT.

Any details?

Price/Mileage/whereabouts?

Cheers

It’s on page 60. I will PM you all the details.

Hiya, thanks for that - slight misunderstanding there … I thought you meant a ZSport! So had a rummage and couldn’t see one - I now see what you meant was a Montana.

No price though? I find it annoying (and I don’t think I am alone) when people don’t put the price … they know what they want. I’m sure that, for some weird reason, they think they are being clever? Puzzles me.

Well - update - a year later … and prices have dropped to <£9,000 for these ZSports.

That would have meant a loss of £1500 in 12 months or 15% … good job I didn’t jump I guess?

Now I’m looking again and amazingly have found the very same ZSport which started me off up for sale again!!! Only 60 miles away!

I have to say, a Z-Sport I spotted the other day at a Citroen dealership in Salisbury caught my eye, at £9500. The BBS alloys looked striking, as did the rare Mk3 hardtop that was included.

That’s in the Penton Motor Group - and it’s not at Salisbury, it is in Bournemouth.

33,000 miles and 2 owners, last owner owned for 8 months!

When I last test drove it, it had a dent in the boot - scuffed alloys and a rather nasty hole in the carpet next to the clutch pedal!!

Mazda Main Dealers have some with half the miles, one owner and Zoom Zoom warranty for £10,000 … these are, by far, better buys. I would give the Citreon ZSport a WIDE berth!

There’s a nice Z-Sport for sale in my local garage  Tredegar, Gwent, S Wales  37000 miles, colour is radiant ebony mica

Was  £9995 but they have dropped the price to £9495

They were all Maroon colour.

Interesting to see the prices falling away - not many people in the market for a second car these days I guess?

But, still, the Mazda Main Dealers are asking £10,000 for the best ones - it would have to be seriously below £9495 to make me buy from an Independant.
