I read in Motor Cycle News today that Allen Millyard is a great believer in ZX1 Micro Oil, not a product I have heard of before. It is a type of oil additive and friction reducer.
From the web site it is claimed not to affect the engine oil. It works by coating all the internal metal surfaces reducing friction, releasing a little more power and improving fuel consumption. They also claim reduced emissions.
I’m not a great believer in oil additives but the endorsement by Allen Millyard is pretty convincing.
Has anyone had any experience of using this product, I’d be very interested your experience.
Not sure of if this is the same stuff but I have always been wary of ‘As Seen On TV’ and Celebrity endorsements, can you imagine Nigel Mansell ever smoked a Marlboro or Jim Clark a Gold Leaf ?
Just one of the functions of good quality engine oil is to coat the internal metal surfaces to reduce friction. I am not familiar with this particular product, but many similar products are just EP additives.
I am a lubricant wholesaler and resist commenting in many oil related posts as there are so many experts who have different opinions. My view is that the major oil companies invest millions in R&D to come up with the ideal product for your engine. If putting in an extra product was the answer, they would have done it already. I am not a chemist and trust that their chemists know more about the subject than I do.
We get very few oil related issues, but if we do get an issue, the first thing we do is take a sample of the oil and send it off to the lab for testing. If there is anything extra in there the lab will find it and we will reject any claim.
I’m sure many people have used this product and are happy with it. Personally, I wouldn’t put anything in my engine apart from a good quality engine oil.
