Any owners of 1.6 mk2 like to inform me what to expect from my car? Had it 6 weeks now and once managed 200 miles to half tank, now only getting 150 …equates out to 30 mpg now…I was hoping for closer to 40+
Any thoughts?
Pete

300 miles to a tank is about right.
Hi Pete
1992 eunos 1.6 brg V spec 116 bhp 104000 mls on the clock here and just two weeks ago got 41 mpg over 910 mls over 4 days Wirral to Breamar Scotland most on motorway at 60 to 70 then up and down dale when up there. The 1.6 mk2 is it a UK car as it may be 88bhp oyu may be able to adjust the timing too 14 btdc for UK 95 ron fuel,
Catch you Rob.
its a 2004 1.6, no idea on bhp. UK car. I run it on 95 and tried super stuff, but doesnt change the mpg.
Mine averages just short of 40 mpg.
It’s a MK2 110bhp
30mpg about normal, or your not trying
mileage has gone down to 150 half tank from 200 when I first went out in it. Now perhaps I am trying a bit harder, and yes my right foot does go down a bit harder more often now…especially since fitting k&n typhoon induction kit…I just love that noise, so my foot is going down much much more…lol
About 250 miles out of a tank although only still putting in just over 40 litres, on a 1.8
Avg 30-33mpg overall, so I’d guess you’re about spot on. Have you calculated based on refilled litres vs miles? As both my Mk 2’s have shown “E” on the gauge but still put in only 40-odd lts…
Just enjoy the driving, it’s not an Econobox (thank goodness!)
Bill
The only way to check is Brim the tank before and after, too much variation otherwise. Sport tech 33.3 mpg over the summer, rash of 50mph limits round here, helps the mileage I suppose, spoils the fun. Dave.
I can get nearly 40mpg from my 1.6 but hell it’s really boring 56mph stuff…
with my size 12s & the Welsh road bendy stuff I’m lucky to get 25
30mpg if about right I reckon
Tell you the truth, never worked it out and dare not
Just fill it up with “V” power and enjoy it
But then I’ve only had the car about 4/5 years
Filled up with V power, only discernible difference is 12p per litre! Not likely to be repeated. Dave.
Drive it like you’ve stolen it!!
Ray
Did a full to brim test over same journey. Actually achieved 40mpg with old grannie driving at 60 on dual carriageway. And heavy foot work at lighfs. Islands. Etc. Just to hear the roar…so really chuffed again… not bad me thinks. …pete.
When I saw the thread title I thought you were only getting 1.6 miles per gallon! I wondered what you were driving, a Challenger tank?
Have a H reg 1.6 and will only put Vpower or similar in it. If you are changing over to it it takes a couple of fills to get the benefits ie cleaning out the engine. Thats been my experience, so carry on and enjoy the car who cares as long as we enjoy the cars… All the best
Use http://www.fuelly.com/ you will get a proper reading of your mpg - over a period of time. Mine (2002 1.6 mk2.5) has averaged 36.5 over the (nearly) three years I have had it, best 41.4 on a long run on French ‘N’ roads. Weekday commutes, 30 miles each way, currently averaging 37.1. I can’t complain at that
As this is an American site just be aware that US owners’ mpg is in US gallons so US users will report mpg’s about 17% lower than UK users. I get about 36 mpg from my 1998 NB 1.8 mainly rural and dual carriageway driving. No rush hour or city driving as I am retired.
