Let’s go briefly to the other end of the spectrum.
Mine’s a ‘99 NB with 93K on the clock. A couple of weeks back, we had what we called “The North Yorks Moors tour (NYM600)”, starting from Norwich with three nights in Pickering enjoying driving through the gorgeous scenery of the moors and then returning to Norfolk. Spirited driving all the time with about 550 miles covered. Overall consumption was a smidgeon over 37 mpg.
Anyone remember Bruce Forsyth’s show “Play your cards right” with audience catcalls of “lower, lower”?
It’s using the brakes that ruins fuel economy plus speeds over 75 mph.
My NB would achieve 37 mpg on long runs and 35-36 on my usual rural driving.
My 2016 1.5 ND once did 52 mpg on a clear run to Brighton but with a few 50 mph limits. In the year I have owned it in 6100 miles it has averaged 46.8 mpg, a testament to the efficiency of the engine. I don’t use my brakes vey much on bends, possibly at the expense of tyre wear, as the car corners so well.
Like you, i tend not to brake much in to corners but on the odd occasion that i drive my wife’s Renault Kadjar i have to reset my brain a bit! ![]()
Trip finished and home.
1850 miles covered at no higher than 65mph at any point.
Average mpg at 49.8
ND2 2.0L
Very impressed
That’s brilliant😂 To be honest, I’ve stopped looking at my MPG, I just look at ‘smiles per gallon’. Some things are just priceless!
Sorry my post was the the lockdown quote of 3 months to the gallon!

Amazing.
I started the engine in Ulverston, drove to Cartmel, and started again a few hours later to drive back home to Dalton.
50 mph average speed, roof down, new Garbage album on.
Off to France in the morning (from Belfast). Hoping for some sweet 40+ economy.
Routes nationales or autoroutes?
On 21st June France celebrates the Fête de la musique.
This year it falls on a Saturday so it should be busy all day long.
But if both. I’ll be in Switzerland on that date.
Last 3 brim to brim fills of the cheap stuff for May and June.
429 miles------51.4mpg
308 miles------52.3mpg
341 miles------51.3mpg

2.0 RF - 48.6 on a 1200 mile round trip from Cambridgeshire to Lossiemouth - mix of motorways, fast A roads and twisty Scottish A/B roads including the Old Military Road over Glenshee.
Pleased with that figure considering I wasn’t hanging around to get up there as quick as possible and the atrocious weather between Glasgow and my final destination.
To day I decided to go into ‘super eco’ mode and this is the result after a 125 mile round trip from File to Masham and back.
I know it will actually be less than that if I did a brim to brim as it is usually 2/3 mpg less but it entertained me and I didn’t get in any ones way.

PS Aircon was not required as it was only 26 degrees C!!
One benefit of a new battery is the wiping of mpg figures. 299.8 miles from Rennes to Preigeux at 48.9. No autoroutes. Few N roads at 110kph and plenty of nice D roads. Superb.
Only a Yorkshireman would keep his aircon off to save mpg. Or some Yorkshiremen - to Malc’s horror I have mine on all the time. And get - eekk - only 42mpg
Air con is for wimps!!!
CU Wednesday?

Yes indeed . My AC will be set at 18C .
Where will this all end? Next thing is you will be demanding power steering, electric windows and even central locking. Shocking, I am lost for words!!!

I’ve just arrived home from a 3000 mile trip to the south of France, French/Swiss/Italian Alps, Black Forest, Nürburgring etc. My trip average was 38.5mpg. Given that I wasn’t at any point pootling, I’m quite impressed by that from an ND1 with a BBR Super 200 kit.
