5th & now 6th (🙈) MX5 & the beginnings of a Rocketeer build

I have also been renovating my roof as it was letting the car down - I have used a combination of three products:

Renovo Mohair Hood Cleaner
Renovo Mohair Hood Reviver
Autoglym Soft Top Cleaner

Before:

Middle

End

There are some hard sticky things stuck in the roof which are a bit like chewing gum, not sure whether it is old tree sap or bird poo - i’m hoping if we get some freezing weather that can be used to harden it and get it off, we’ll see.

No need to wait on the weather.

I used various brands of aerosol freezer sprays at work for occasional diagnostics for decades.
Last year I tried this Motip one on a set-top-box-recorder to find if its problem was an intermittent connection or an overheating component.
It was both; a surface-mount power IC had cracked some of its solder which went open circuit when hot. Re-soldered and now good.

A freezer system was also used a few years ago at Salisbury Cathedral to clean visitors’ discarded chewing gum off the pavements around it.

Third update in a week! Give that man a medal. Or gin, give him gin.

Lots of other small jobs have been going on over the last couple of months whilst I wait for the opportunity to finish the wrapping.

I relocated and mounted the fuel regulator as space was a bit tight where it was and the supplied mounting kit didn’t fit the Rocketeer mount.

The quarterlight window frames were replaced and repainted

The door to body seals were replaced for Brand New Mazda items

I fitted the JASS cover for the engine valance

Door mirrors have been painted

Front ARB has been stripped, sanded down and repainted; new drop links and bushes fitted.

I’ve got my mechanic booked in to come and do a pre MOT check, which is quite exciting!

I may have said that before so i’d understand if you took that with a pinch of salt

I could really do with getting a pair of the quarterlight frames. Where did you get yours?

The vertical ones I got from mx5parts, the diagonal ones (I only realised after taking the door apart) are actually part of the door structure, so I just sanded these down and repainted myself.

Hi all,

Looking for a mk1 front bumper - does anyone have one they’d be willing to sell?

Turns out that the reason for my woes with wrapping is in part to do with the areas of the car that have been resprayed; paint lift is way more prevalent on resprayed cars and both my bumpers have had resprays at some point in their past.

Ideally I need the top coat/lacquer to be in good condition but faded paint I am not at all worried about.

If anyone has one going spare, let me know!
