A Day out in Kent - Scenic drive and beach BBQ - 22nd August 2010

We are replacing the usual pub meet with a run though narrow lanes accross marsh land, passing Camber Sands,  and back into Kent and ending up at the beach bring your own BBQ/picnic, games  for on the beach. Please bring your gazebos, wind breaks, towels, swim suit etc  it is a lovely long sandy beach plenty of room for everyone.

We will meet at 10am (leaving at 10.30am/10.45am) at The Travel Lodge, Ashford Car Park, Eureka Leisure Park, Rutherford Road, Ashford, Kent, TN25 4BN (Situated close to Junction 9 on the M20) Just to let everyone know there is a Frankie and Benny’s, McDonalds, KFC, Burger King and Pizza Hut so if you fancy Breakfast come a little earlier and you will find us probably in Franki and Bennys having breakfast. We will hand out instructions for a scenic drive through the countryside of Kent and East Sussex ending at St Mary’s Bay. If the weather is bad then we will revert to some tea rooms at Burmash just up the road from the beach or end up in a pub a couple of miles down the road, lets hope the weather stays nice, I will wave the magic wand again but  keep an eye on the forum and website for updates

Please can you let me know if you are coming along so that we know rough numbers for this event.

Sarah (Mazda chick)

me and dave will be there can we bring our dog its a westie ??  thanks karen

 Hi there

Yes I think as long as your keep your dog on the lead I am sure it will be okay, the beach does say no dogs between May - September (this is the same for all beaches at this time of the year but people do what they want anyway) however if the dog stays in our little group and we have the gazebos up I am sure everyone will be more than happy to have a four legged friend come along. It will be close enough to September and so no problem it is up to you at the end of the day.

We do have to have the Westie as the club mascot I think as we have 3 in the club that I know about.

See you on the 22nd August

Cheers

We will be there with Marley the Mazda Mutt

Hi

I have just read the above thread and I would have loved to travel down and joined this run (I am in the N/W), unfortunately I am in France on the run date. Many moons ago my parents would holiday in Hastings and they would take us to Camber Sands for the day, what a super beach, are all the shells still there? Sometimes we would ride on the Romney, Hyth and Dimchurch railway. Thank you for bringing back so many wonderful memories!

Hoping to come along too - and probably with Petra who would love to play with the Westies.

Me n Jane would have loved to have made this meet. we live about 10 miles from Camber and I know all the Marsh roads. We are away for the whole of August, so hope to meet you at Chatsworth or somewhere more local in September.

 Hi folks

Wow, I will bring the dog treats along, look forward to meeting all of the four legged friends, and of course, Petra,  Marley our Mazda Mutt, and all the other 4 legged friends that wish to come along too.

We should have a fun day and we can stop at Camber first if you want, I will leave it up to you on the day.

I will keep doing the sun dance and waving the magic wand for the weather

cheers

Sarah (Mazda Chick)

 Hi Gary, Jane and Alan

Sorry you cannot make the run, perhaps another time, we will probably do something similar next year so watch this space. Have fun on your holiday.

All areas are welcome to come along and enjoy the run

See you soon

Best Wishes

Sarah (Mazda Chick)

Treats? Did someone say treats? Wahayyyyy! I’m coming to get them!!!

ps   Don’t forget those treats - you promised - or there will be trouble…

Fantastic pic!

 We’re up for this…Big Smile

Brilliant, bring your flag along, perhaps we could have a flag competition, will bring the MX-5 Flag, maybe good place to bring your kites if anyone got one?

Cheers

 Hi Folks

Looking at numbers that have told me that are coming and think we may end up parking at St.Marys bay beach more room for everyone to Park. Hand outs of the drive will be given out on the day, this will start in Ashford Kent, we will touch East Sussex passing Camber Sands and back into Kent again to arrive at St. Mary’s Bay.

Looking forward to the event, bring your picnics or disposable BBQ’s, chairs, gazebos however I may bring one of the large MX-5 Shelters (Like the one used at Bromley) with the flag so we can all sit under this if hot.

Bring your games, balls, badminton, giant Jenga, or something for a rounders match maybe we can have a game men against woman should be a laugh lets hope for sunny weather fingers crossed, will keep waving my magic wand again for everyone.

Cheers

Sarah (Mazda Chick)

Last time I went to St Marys bay I was on a school OLevel geography field trip and last time I went to Camber Sands I broke the middle toe on my left foot in a “who can jump the furthest off a sand-dune competition”!  Ah how the years pass …

1 week to go hope the weather is better than this weekend

 Hi folks

I have checked the tide also for this weekend we will have lots of beach all afternoon, I am hoping all the rain will come down this week leaving next week lovely and sunny, Mart and I have just finished the run again and enjoyed ice cream sitting down on the beach, the sun was shining so fingers crossed we will be okay, I have a plan B option if it rains and a large pub just a couple of miles down from the beach will accomodate us.

Please bring sun cream, a cardigan / jumper if it does get a little windy, good for kite flying, bring bats and balls for game of rounders, shelters, gazebos, flags and portable BBQ’s food, wine, beer, coffee and tea.

We have already spoken to the kiosk at St.Mary’s Beach, they know we are coming next sunday, so as long as the weather is okay, you can get fish and chips, coffee, ice creams etc etc.

It was fairly busy even with the weather as it has been this weekend and everyone was having fun so come prepared for all weathers and you will be fine. Hopefully we will have sunshine which I am wavying my magic wand and hoping fingers and toes crossed.

  • Car Park Charges for beach  have a great day enjoy your day 2 – Hours £2.10, 3 – Hours £3.20, 4 – Hours £ 4.20 and 5 – Hours £5.30
Thanks everyone and see you next weekend.
