I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Engine Oil
Evening everyone,
I’ve had my MX-5 for about 5 months and want to do an oil change since it’s approaching 5K miles now. I am a newbie so this’ll be the first time I’ve ever done an oil change on any car myself.
The manual specifies that it’ll take 0w-20 or 5W-30 so I’m personally inclined towards the 0w-20 just for that little bit of extra oil flow during start-up in the winter months. It also says any 0W-20 with an API of SN or higher will be fine, but for the 5W-30, it specifically states it must be ACEA A5/B5.
Does this mean any ACEA spec will be fine if I use 0W-20 as long as it is API SN or higher? I’ve been looking around and API SP 0W-20 is pretty abundant but they all seem to have an ACEA rating of C5 or C6, will it be okay to use one of these?
Obviously, I can just get the Mazda Original Supra X from MX-5 parts but I’m curious to see if there are any ‘better’ or equivalent alternatives from Shell/Castrol/Mobil that can be used instead?
Any and all help much appreciated, thanks!
It gets complicated when you ask about oil, I can’t even remember what I decided to change mine to now.

It does not NEED an oil change, but if YOU feel the NEED use the Mazda oil from MX5Parts.

Don’t overthink it, if you are set on changing at 5k then use this.
