All new MX-5s being held at Bristol Port

More intel from the US forum:

Yes we are hearing the same here in the states and Australia where they are holding the 35th Anniversary MX5’s at ports due to Stability Control Module issues and parts are backordered. I also checked multple VIN’s and other sites for MX5 Recalls or issues and nothing is published.

After cancelling my order, my next move will be to contact the Mazda dealers who already have a 2024/2025 Homura in stock and see if they are allowed to sell 'em.

If so, then it could be good option to avoid the open-ended wait for those cars being held at Bristol. It would then be a case of having it recalled once the dealers have been supplied with the replacement part.

I understand that cars with a build date of Dec 24 or later are OK.

Hey all. Bit annoying that this is my first post, but i’ve just had a call from my dealer saying the same thing! was supposed to be picking it on Saturday but they made contact last week sayign they didn’t know when it’d arrive. Gutted!

Sounds like mine. All signed on the PX and they said they expected to get it on 22nd March. Then when I emailed them on 21st they said no!

I got this reply from Mazda UK yesterday:

Thank you for your email.

We are sorry for the delay and the inconvenience caused. The dealership will keep you up to date when we are given more information.

Generally, our cars do not come over from Japan with protective film and neither do we add this retrospectively at compound. However, we have stringent processes and procedures for checking cars in compound prior to release, particularly for things like bird lime etc, if identified they are immediately dealt with.

As for the increased car tax, this will not affect you. As the delay is a result of Mazda UK you will not be required to pay the increased new car tax.

Thank you for your patience and we will be sure to update you as soon as we receive further information.

I don’t believe for 1 second they will ‘recify paint issues’, they’ll just wsh it and polish it with a dirty sponge and then my detailer will have to fix it when he does a corection and PPF. It’s absolutely crazy there is no protection on them to ship half way around the world.

At least I have it writing I won’t have to pay the road tax.

lol I know

Probably because they are inside a cargo ship during their journey from Japan.

However, I do agree that having these brand new cars standing out in the compound for an indeterminate length of time with no paint protection whatsoever is just not acceptable.

And although I’ve now cancelled my order (phew), I do sympathize with you guys who have decided to wait it out.

I would also query about the inside, I had a car left at Southampton docks waiting for a new diff from the states. When the car returned it was all faded on the inside where it had been baked. It was an older car so not sure how new cars would fair but definitely something to look at.

Well, at least its not summer yet and its no different from a car being left outside anyway as far as the interior is concerned.

I’d the car a few years and parked it on the drive and the interior was fine I wonder if the sea air and also sun reflecting off the sea can have affect, plus being in a big concrete compound.

There is a bit of protection during shipping:

It’s almost like a new GF has finally said “Yes”!

Latest info (in Oz) is that all new MX5s - including those from Dec 24 - are impacted…

That recall was last year.

Yeah. That’s why it says ‘recall date 28-02-25’ and has a recall number of ‘R/2025/043’….

The problem is the stability control module…confirmed on multiple forums…

Yes I’d heard about that (higher up on here I think?), but the recall I posted says Feb 25 on the govt web site. Agree mazda must’ve know about it before hand and started dealing with it sooner.

I’m very lucky, my dealer has been great - I have a loan vehicle (a white GT 24 model).

However, as you say, Mazda has indeed handled this very badly…why the secrecy?
