I placed an order for a new MX-5 Homura Roadster in January.
Dealer rang me today to say that the car is now at Mazda’s Bristol Port compound BUT is being held (along with all the other new MX-5 arrivals) because of a safety recall.
The salesman also said that it could be May before these cars are “fixed” and released!!
Needless to say, this is both annoying and frustrating.
Does anyone on here have any insider info on the nature of the problem?
Could be the same problem, maybe. But I’m assuming that all of the VINs in the list are assigned to cars in Australia.
“My” VIN begins with: JMZND6E7700
There’s no recall info for this VIN on Mazda’s own site… yet, but I may get a bit more detail tomorrow when (apparently) the dealer’s senior sales manager will be back in the office.
Mine is scheduled for delivery on 31st of March, also, my VIN’s not on the list. Already been told it may be delayed, and thus my Tax will be double, £1,3K odd, if so :/.
On that subject (increase in VED), my dealer also told me that Mazda will absorb the increase, assuming that delivery is delayed until well after the increase.
Moderately good news but still not ideal, given that the cars are now sat there in Bristol.
Sounds very much like the same problem described in the Australian recall notice. If so then I’d say that it falls very much into the “nannying tech aids” category.
But I guess Mazda is just being ultra cautious wrt possible litigation if someone got injured as a direct result of this simple software bug.
Currently waiting for a phone call from my local dealer. Signed my part-ex deal at the start of the month, and was told it was an in-stock car and would be ready from around the 20th, but not heard anything yet. I wonder if my car is also delayed because of this?
Yes my car is indeed affected. Just had the call. Could be up to 8 weeks apparently because part(s) are required and there’s a wait for the supply of said parts.
Hmmm, sounds like it’s rather more than a simple software fix then.
Did they happen to mention which parts are needed, or which parts need to be replaced?
I’ll be getting in touch with my dealer again tomorrow to try and get a definitive answer. I don’t hold out much hope though because I’ve already been in touch with the Mazda Customer Service department and they just described it as needing “quality control checks” and “there is currently no timeframe of when these vehicles will be released”.
No they didn’t say what the parts were. But sent me an email after the phone call to put it all in writing and it included the following quote from Mazda:
“This follows confirmation that the advised delivery postponement affecting MX-5 is now expected to continue into May, due to required parts availability. We will of course be working with our global suppliers to improve on this timeline if possible.”
I’m somewhat fortunate as I already have an MX-5, and it’s my newer one that’s delayed. It must be very frustrating if you’re wating to get into your first.
When I bought my current car I ordered it in December '21 and it was delivered in May '22 so I know how slow the weeks seem to click by.
It’s a sorry story from Mazda, and with no definite timeline for a resolution, I’ve taken the decision to cancel my order. My dealer was very good about it though and refunded my deposit straight away.
I’m in the same boat… Should have been picking my Homura up next week (my first MX-5, ordered last Oct), but neither the dealer or Mazda can give me a new ETA.
Looks to be a Global issue as now being discussed on the miata forum Stateside. There they mention needing to replace the stability control module & parts are on back order.
Would be good if they prioritised customer built cars waiting for collection over production units, but know it won’t work like that.
