Definitely won’t be May just so i can squeeze in the excitement of another GT86 MOT!!
The call I was promised today (after the dealer had their meeting with Mazda) didn’t happen - grrrrrrr .
This probably means that the latest update is… that there’s no update!!
Anyone tried getting in touch with Dave Coleman? He’s on linkedin, so might try that route to get a more tangible explanation of exactly where Mazda is right now.
I just spoke with my dealer this morning, they didn’t think anything will happen until July now. Something they suspected after reading a letter regarding branch audit and car allocations.
Wow, looks like what my dealer told me just over a week ago might be out of date info now.
They said that Mazda had told them to report all March MX-5s for May, so as far as they were concerned they were being delivered in May…
March to July, if I’m reading it correctly, is awful. Bizarre.
BIG NEWS!!!
My car is expected 23rd May!
“But Mazda are under promising and over delivering. I had one arrive today that was due for 20th” (quote from General Manager).
So on the basis they will miss my date for a new car detail on 19th May, I’ve rearranged that for 9th June. Hopefully this time it will align!
Well done. Bit of decent news
Mind you, regarding this debacle, Mazda ‘over delivering’ is a phrase that don’t flow easily in the English language. Can’t believe someone in the car industry would say that. Nah, no way
Yeah i’m still not holding my breath! but my opening comment was “so, July then?” before he said anything!!
That’s brilliant news Robert .
From my side, I did actually re-order an MX-5 Homura in April - oooh! That was after trawling through all of the availability on the main shop.mazda.co.uk site, trying to find a dealer that had one in stock.
Well, the one I found had a status of “available now”, so I went ahead and reserved it online (for the fully refundable deposit of £99 - which I’ve already had returned). However… when the dealer rang me, he said that the car was - yes, you’ve guessed it - at Bristol waiting for the fix!
Yes, this was massively disappointing but I went ahead and confirmed the order anyway after they agreed to the discount I asked for and the trade-in value for my car. I’ll also be having it ceramic coated whilst still at the dealers before handover.
So… looks like May could be a goer at last .
No no no!! Don’t get the dealer to do it!! Find a reputable detailer near you or the dealer will just make it worse by getting some apprentice to wipe it over with autofinesse or something!!
Whilst actually sealing in the micro iron grits and dusts. If only the broad church of the innocent public knew. I watched a delivery miles prestige car being professionally detailed long times past. The filth lifted off the paint was staggering (that had not benefitted) from the adhesive plastic, IanH might recall…it was at a car show in Alford. I had our new Swift Sport Gen3’d on delivery. 2 day process two years back. I was told the paint was very, very thin and needs all the help it can get. Cold water runs of the paint in globules as new. But then…its only done 3091 miles!
Okay, thanks for the warning. I must admit that I wasn’t absolutely happy with having this done by the dealer, especially since I’m ever so slightly (aka very) obsessive about paintwork care. I’ll definitely get that deleted then and save a few quid (well more than a few actually!).
I did have a really good PPF guy on stand-by for my previous order but had to postpone that, obviously. He’s applied PPF to all my previous new cars and the results have been truly impressive - glass smooth, no chips at all, and dead simple to wipe over to remove bugs.
I’m now thinking that I’ll just get the PPF front-end kit and then stick to my usual Autoglym “Extra Gloss Protection” which I’ve been using on all my cars for years - it’s brilliant stuff with no abrasive content at all.
I’m sure he does ceramic coat as well.? I’m getting a PPF on the front bumper (motorway miles to work) and lifetime geyon ceramic all over.
That is so satisfying! It reminds me of woodwork class at school and covering a hand with glue, then peeling it off after it dries.
lol a new GF saying ‘yes’ is comparable to peeling glue off after it dries
Out of curiosity (and a bit of chronic impatience, haha), I just called a dealer near Bristol. They confirmed that MX-5 deliveries have indeed resumed. I’m now waiting to hear back from my own dealer to see if there’s any update on mine.
MIne was Johnson’s in Gloucester
My dealer hasn’t had any updates on the cars specifically but says they have been told to include MX5s in May sales forecasting so sounds like things are starting to resolve with the hold!
Phoned my dealer on Friday to let them know I’m on holiday at the end of the month so while the car needs to be returned to them by the end of May, the actual date I need to be rid of it is the 23rd, and was told I was already to due to get a phone call on Monday with some kind of update.
Monday - no call, and we’re now into Wednesday afternoon, still nothing.
They know they have to get me into a new car by the 23rd, or sort out a courtesy car, so the ball is in their court at the moment. That said, looks like I’ll re ringing them if I don’t hear from them today.
Just think, if the car that needs to be back on the 23rd is financed, 3 or so years ago when you were getting it, you might have been feeling the same about that one! In 3-4 years time, if you’re financing your MX-5, you might be trying to get rid of that too!
It’s funny in life, how novelties wear off. I remember getting a Jap import van a few years back, and how excited i was leading up to it, and how yawing I was selling it only a year and a bit later. I did lose a few bob, but when I lose a few bob I always soften my brain and think PCPers must lose that much EVERY year!
Hope they sort it out. It’s frustrating waiting on calls. We’ve all been there.
