Alpine Sat nav unit 2014 series 3.75 MX5

  1. My model of MX-5 is:2014 1.8
  2. I’m based near: Basildon
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: alpine Sat nav unit 2014 series 3.75 MX5

Hello

I have a MX5 with the late alpine head unit. I have seen somewhere that it is basically a branded Alpine unit that has be mazdafied. the post i found i now cant which is great but it suggested you could change the software to put it back to alpine spec which means you can change the bass treble etc. The sound i get at present is pants!!

Also i seem to get randon bleeps when the car is moving which in guessing is linked to the tom tom software but does anyone have any ideas how to turn the bleeping off. The handbook is pretty useless.

any help appreciated

Chris

Did a bit of research on headunits between the NC2 and NC3 before purchasing my MX-5 but the AVN2 is a modified Alpine INE-W920R that has had a few features removed like the equaliser settings although, you can supposedly flash the original Alpine firmware to get these features back.
There’s a thread on the German Mazda forum site that runs through the AVN2 and a few posts on flashing it - https://www.mazda-forum.info/threads/update-mazda-avn-2.62462/#post-626659 (hopefully i can post this, obviously remove if not allowed).

Might help but my AVN1 (Sanyo TomTom unit; manual is also pretty vague) did the same, which i believe is to do with markers or speed cameras, but it’s a separate navigation volume to “music” and, iirc, i could only access whilst “mashing” the volume down button whilst voice guidance said an instructions and/or it beeped.
There’s no doubt a proper method/option allowing you to keep voice guidance (couldn’t find anything in the settings though) but the beeps stopped :grinning:

Follow this thread, worked perfectly for me:

Use a reformatted usb drive and you shouldn’t have any problems :crossed_fingers:t2:

Mick

Thanks for the link

Im a bit of a technology novice so when you say use a reformatted USB drive does that mean a new blank one with only the updating files on it?

When you did it did the sat nav still work and the ability to adjust bass etc help with the sound quality?

Chris

Try this

Hi Chris,
A new usb drive would be fine, I used an 8gb one.
The sat nav functionality remained working, and full sound customisation is enabled, vastly improving the sound.
Just follow the instructions and you shouldn’t have any problems :+1:t2:
Cheers
