April increase in road tax licences

I have just become aware that the cost of my next Tax disc , for my 51   1.8 sport , will be £550 !!!  due to its CO2 rating of 215 ( band K ).  Last year it was £215 which I thought was a bit over the top.   Angry

 No it won’t.

Phew! I thought you knew something I didn’t. I was under the impression is was only going up to £245. Glad I was right Big Smile

As usual, I got it wrong!  should have read on to see the article in the telegraph related to NEW cars.    Panic over, even so £245 is a big hike.Rolling eyes

I am also feeling hard done by.

My husband runs a Mazda RX8 (1.3 rota engine which is equiv. of 2.5l) and his tax is a the same as my ickle 1.8.

Fair? Not really.

Just watched a video saying that cars made before 2007 are getting massive hikes in RFL with my 2.0 MX-5 possibly being £760 !!

Somebody prove this wrong please :sob:

What’s the CO2?

There’s a table a bit of a way down the linked page.

It seems yours will be £395 if it’s emissions are 193g/km for cars registered after March 2001 and before April 2017, is that yours?

That’ll be mine then. Anybody want to buy a really nice 2009 NC1 2.0?

My car is currently on SORN. If i tax it before April 1st do I have to pay the increased rate?

Or just buy a year’s RFL starting in March which is my usual approach.

Just had a proper look and it seems my tax isn’t increasing this year. I was paying £395 last year! . Stupid boy! :joy:

If they are correct predictions by the RAC mine isn’t changing, I paid £195 last year.

It is indeed a prediction at this stage. More will be known come the Budget Spring Statement, usually early March.

Likely to go up in line with inflation/RPI etc.

2.0 Homura is 153 G/KM so £215 is likely
my 2.0TD BMW was £35 last year

It’s ridiculous pricing re emissions they emit. I sold a 1.2 SEAT 5 door hatch that was £30 VED for a number of years and only went up to £35 the year before I sold it. Roll forward, it’s replacement has lower emissions score (1 litre 3 pot) yet it’s currently £195 to tax:thinking: same as the ND1 1.5 litre.

These are the 2026 rates for cars between March 2001 and March 2017

The April 2017 onwards VED is going from £195 to £200

Pre 2001 cars :
Up to 1549cc was £220 - will be £230

From 1550cc was £360 - will be £375

I made the same mistake. Nearly fell off my chair!
