If you want a faster nimble larger MX5 and have a slightly better budget, and like VAG, what about a good used R8? £30k or so gets you supercar looks and speed with better reliability, a decent fun factor and comfort.

What a dream car.
As long as everything works.
There’s a reason why they are so “cheap”.
Best keep 15k in the bank for that first “dodgy component event”.
My nephew has had 2 over 12 years.
He thought the first one was just bad luck
It was not.
The second broke his heart and a wedge of wallet…and he is a fairly minted business person.
But they were epic. Bluddy epic.
He has calmed down.
It’s a McLaren these days.
He’s clocked up over 20k plus hard miles in it in a year and nothing has broken…yet.
He sells curry…hundreds of 'em.

Experiences vary - for many they are VAGs hence reliable and their experiences bear this out. They are supercars so will always cost more than a runaround, and definitely more than an MX5…
