BBR200 customer service

Any news :newspaper_roll: :thinking::thinking::thinking:

Not yet, the issue is still ongoing. Mazda are going to contact BBR in the hope they’ll volunteer any possible information to sort it. All will be revealed in due course.

Have you got your car back yet?

In a nutshell, the car was returned from BBR having been told it was running perfectly and I was charged £870 for return transport and their time inspecting it, including a £24.50 charge for a phone call to arrange transport (they “don’t work for nothing” as Neil said). However, even though there was ‘nothing wrong with it’, the ticking noise was completely gone! This was noticed by the transport chap who heard it before it went and on return. I’ll add that the car was returned with damage to the front wing and I have photographic proof that there was no damage as it was loaded onto the transport, but as BBR pointed out, I have no proof there was no damage immediately on return! There was a smear of white paint over the damage that was enough for me to not notice it til a few days later. I have been quoted £527 to have the wing repaired! Within a couple of miles driving, the car was misfiring wildly and stalled twice in a minute. There was a P0300 code so I changed the plugs and coil packs. This more or less cured the problem and the code disappeared, but it still lumped occasionally. I took it to Mazda who know it’s been modified, who told me that whatever BBR could have done when it went back could be the cause of the misfire (their mechanic who had also heard the ticking noise prior to it going back also acknowledged it was now quiet). Their diagnostic check threw up a P0421 though my cheapo code reader doesn’t pick up any faults, and basically they washed their hands of it and sent me on my way (they did try ringing BBR, but as I told them would likely be the case, they didn’t answer!). I actually doubt whether the ticking and the misfire are connected at all but just happened to occur at the same time, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that once BBR have your money, their customer service is disgraceful unlike Chris Allen Mazda who didn’t charge me a penny for their time. Finally, I took the car for a run yesterday for 16 miles locally having upgraded my AA cover to recovery, and it ran very well though it did lump slightly about 10 miles in. I’m taking it for a long run tomorrow.

Absolutely shocking for you.

You asked and I gave professional advice which you chose to ignore and instead allowed yourself to be right royally ripped off.
It’s been like watching a car crash in slow motion.

This is really bad service and a definite red flag :triangular_flag_on_post: to anyone considering taking their own car to BBR:flushed::flushed::flushed::flushed:

Bit harsh, don’t you think?

If everything in this thread is true, and I have no reason to believe it’s not, then BBR have disgraced themselves.

It is not the OPs fault, at all. As a lay-person, they put their trust in a reputable company.

Not everybody has your level of knowledge or expertise. Not taking your advice should not be seen as a slight on your person. The OP did not intentionally orchestrate all of this to upset any of us.

I, personally, would take advice from you and use it in conjunction with my own knowledge/judgement but, not everybody is you or me.

OP is 100% blameless in this.

I’ll say this. It’s the last nail in the coffin for BBR from me. I won’t take my car there and I’ll be advising anyone I know not to do so either.

They’ll cause themselves untold reputation harm on this forum, all because they don’t take ownership of their work, and have shocking after sales.

A good friend of mine has gone through somewhat similar experience, post BBR install issues, and BBR basically said “don’t waste your time sending it to us”.

Given they are supposed to be the specialists, and they know fine well that no one else will touch their work, who exactly do they propose we take issues to!

A shocking business model and I’ll do everything I can to stop anyone I can from using them.

Well done BBR

It’s harsh but true.
He should have had an independent inspection done before taking it back, 2hrs work max.
The other silly thing is although i’m a fair few miles away, i"m actually in the same county as him. I’m unable to take on any big jobs atm, but that was well within my remit, or anyone elses under my direction.
That’s why we’re in a club, a group. So you can contact or use the trusted people within it.

The other thing is this, behind the scenes we know who does what, but obviously we can’t take to the screen and make it public knowledge.

If you mean to remove the belt and run it briefly, I suggested that to the local garage and he more or less cut me off in mid sentence and categorically told me it wasn’t that. As for removing the cam cover, you’re failing to understand that the local garages were all totally uninterested in dealing with a modified car. There are other details too numerous to mention that have basically left me cornered with the only option of sending it to an outfit 3.5 hrs away. Also, £480 of the money spent was of my own choice to have the car transported as fuel and accommodation expenses on top of the massive inconvenience made it the best option and to guarantee the car actually got there. The biggest errors on my part were not realising that modifying my car would turn it into a hot potato but particularly trusting BBR.

Wow. Dude. This sucks, I wish you the best of luck with your car. Don’t know what else to say after getting so … by BBR. Heard bad things about them before but this is just crazy. Makes one wonder how they’ve gotten so big.

Maybe to the OP you are some are just a random bloke off the internet offering gratuitous 'professional ’ advice ? There is rarely a shortage of them . Unlike BBR , OP has no comeback against them , or you in this case , if the advice was incorrect .

You have to understand that duratenc’s general personality and the way he comes across is quite brusque and can be more than a little bit “offensive”
He’s a Yorkshireman and my guess is, they must self build higher pedestals to stand atop in that part of the land.
I don’t question his knowledge, he’s just not very diplomatic getting things across.
God help his woman/women :astonished::astonished::astonished:

Feel for you mate.

I won’t be modifying this mx5 engine wise that’s for sure, after this (and other) feedback.

The ticking noise? Could’ve been a loose coil or plug? Mine did this on a BMW and just needed nipping up.

Hope you get it sorted and hope it doesnt ruin the car for you.

Given BBR’s response later in the thread, I think its probably fair that I retract my previous post to return to a neutral position.

Having read this thread again, I’ve not noticed a mention of the fault that produced a ticking noise SOMETIMES with my old Vextra B, and my old Bitsa.
A broken stud on the exhaust manifold (Vextra), a pin hole in an exhaust weld (Bitsa).

I’m not saying this is what happened with your NC, but the noise a tiny, tiny exhaust leak makes right at the head does sound like a tick. And it comes and goes with heat cycling and movement of the different materials, and might upset O2 sensor etc.

You seem to have covered everything else, and BBR have put on a new bit which might just not be seated properly on the gasket, or might even have done the same as happened to the Vextra.

This is mere idle speculation on my part, and only suggested since you are not seeing answers from anything else tried. It may yet be something else no-one has thought of yet.

I still can’t help thinking a Stethoscope might help pin it down.

Then he should have done his homework.
The OP does have comeback against any work invoiced, he has none against BBR.
