- My model of MX-5 is: __2010 20th Anniversary Mk3.5
- I’m based near: __St.Albans
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Hood restoring
What is the best product/way of restoring a faded black hood back to looking new again. There seem to be a lot of products available on Amazon but are there any specific ones the pro’s use that do a really good job?
Thanks in advance
Have a look in the Cleaning and Detailing section, as it’s a common question.
e.g. Removing stains on ND soft top
I’d start with a clean down with a Milton sterilising solution, then go from there using recommended products.
Cheers,
Steve
A good clean as mentioned above, I have used Renovo then Fabsil Gold to seal the colour in with great results
Autoglym…. fairly happy with the beading, but still would prefer the cloth to look more “black”……. I think I’m going to have to go the re-colouring route next time, prob Renovo….?
I think I’ve tried them all with varying degrees of success. The full Renovo kit is good especially if the roof has faded as the colour saturation makes it look like new again (it is a bit messy though) AutoGlym kit is good but I tend to be a hit or a miss with the water repellancy. Fabsil Gold is also good. I think the key is a good deep clean to start with which with the great british weather being as it is, isn’t always that easy to achieve as preperation for treatment.
I can vouch for the Renovo restoration kit. Messy though. Make sure to cover the glass and body work as the black ‘dye’ can flick off the applicator of choice quite easily.
Thanks for this- yeah, think I’ll go the Renovo route next time
Thanks guys! very helpful. Much appreciated
