I wanted to know if Tom (owner of the ‘rocket’) was on here. I think everyone was in awe of quite what feat of engineering this car was (and just how damn quick it was in his capable hands).
Really inspiring to see a very talented engineer turn his engineering knowledge into such a beautifully crafted bit of kit. (Thoroughly nice chap too!)
Hello there to everyone who attended blyton park saturday was epic fun had a great time with you all got a few pics n clips did anyone get any on track footage as i did manage to get mine sorted in time
Tom’s Mk1 genuinely incredible!!! 350bhp I think
The straight to first corner eaten up in crazy-short time… the only car on the day that almost NEEDED a longer straight… what a cracker
I’m just going through my GoPro footage to see what I can share back on here. I did follow the Blue fire-breathing 5 in your first photo for a while… made me smile as it was flame-grilled into every corner and often half way down the straights too! Awesome haha.
Amazing day! thanks for the pics everyone! and the various pointers and help, very good vibes all round all day.
It doesn’t look like I was going quite as quick as I remember though!?! must have been on a cool down lap
Apologies. Our photo’s would normally have been out by now but there is an upload problem. The photographer has a new camera and the stored file size is rather larger than Fickr wants. Computer says no!
Files are having to be resized so that they can be uploaded.
ery enjoyable day with very like minded people.
I booked 2 slots for both our track cars and on the Thursday I saw a slot available. So booked a 3rd car on for the day.
I was very apprehensive as my Daughter passed her test on the Tuesday before the track day. She has been very keen from a young age and will not miss coming with me to any event. So i stuck my wifes low mileage garage queen mx5 on track for here to drive, after a very bad spin on 2nd lap in the novice morning it set her up for the day and progressed very well.
Thanks to all drivers on the day for respecting all drivers on track. Credit to all.
Already cant wait for the next Mx5 only track day.
Talked to a lot of people and sorry for the ones I didnt but had my hands full trying to get out in mine also taking daughter out.
Big well done to all.
MOT Trackdays are running an evening session at Donnington on the 25th of July that I’ve signed up for. It’s being promoted by the MX-5 Europe facebook group as a group event, so though not MX-5 exclusive there should be a good number of 5’s.
We ran one in 2020, although it got bumped due to Covid to 2021. It was well supported. However when we tried to do the same in 2022, we had around 20 orders, so had to open it up to all cars.
This is the issue you get when trying to run single type car events.
Main circuits like Donington are exponentially more expensive during race season, they are not cheap out of season either, but is why the majority of main circuit “affordable” are out of season. The issue with that is a fair few MX-5 owners don’t want their cars out at that time of year.
We have have days at Donington and Oulton in November. I am happy to make any or even both of them MX-5 only events, but not on a whim. If the OC wants to promote either of these events and if the members are willing to put their hands in their pocket and book, then yes this can be done.
Pembrey has also been suggested as a venue, some thing applies, we need the customers to make the events.
I think Blyton was a superb little circuit for the mx5. It doeant need a track with big long straights unless you have a mega blown motor lol …small and twisty is more fun…so Blyton, cadwell…knockhill etc
