Brake Problems

I can’t answer any of those questions but I’d give Autolink MX-5 a call.

Thankyou John,
Ive sent them an email.

Evening All,

Continuing the above thread, I’ve now got the master cylinder off the servo - what a job. With it removed I see a rusty deposit around the hole running down the servo.

Ive ordered a master cylinder repair kit from BOFI racing and wondered if anyone has experience of doing this? And also with this level of strip if it’s worth removing the servo?

Thanks

Hi All Quick Update,

My car is now back on the road thank goodness. After much head scratching the problem turned out to be ………. Contaminated Brake Fluid which looked like carnation milk for those who remember it🤣.

A replacement Master Cylinder, strip down of the brake proportioning valve, replacement of the flexis back to OEM from Goodrich, caliper seals and pistons plus an extensive flush with new DOT 4 fluid did the trick, oh and bleeding one side of the car back & front at the same time to keep the proportioning valve in its correct postion!

In short those of you with NA, NB, & Early NCs check your brake fluid to prevent this expensive & extensive repair. I understand Brake Fluid Hydrophobic testing may now be an MOT requirement.

In any case you can get a fluid tester for little money from normal outlets.

Afternoon All,

What’s the best method of getting the adjuster out of the rear caliper piston without special tools?

Thanks

Nic

What do you mean by the adjuster specifically? If you mean the 4mm hex key bit with the gear teeth on the end then just insert your hex key into it, tilt it off centre slightly and it’ll pull the adjuster out.

Evening Robert,

I’m rebuilding a pair of rear calipers, and have them fully stripped down.

My problem is with the replacement pistons which dont have the grenade insert that the adjuster shaft screws into.

I’m trying to remove the insert from the old pistons to fit to the new?

Thanks

Nic

Please see attached photo. Thanks.

I saw this a while ago on Bofi racing’s YouTube channel if it’s any help.Brake calliper rebuild

Thanks Jacob
All done now.

Does anyone have knowledge on the NB1 Brake Master Cylinder (with ABS) ?

Specifically an exploded view that shows the order of the Pistons/Seals/Springs Ect.for reassembly to the Master cylinder body?

Thanks

Hi All,

Does anyone know the Thread size of the slider Pin location into the Caliper Mounting Brackets Front & Rear?

Thanks

Nic

I’d supect a sticky piston in the caplipers but I’ve also known someone in the past use a brake pipe compressor on an older flexible rubber brake pipe (e.g. to prevent excessive fluid loss when changing a caliper) only for it to cause the internal rubber to partly collapse, causing a restriction.
