British racing green MK1

What is the general view on British racing green with tan interior MK1?
A good colour combination or more difficult to sell compared to other colours.

I love the colour combination, I suppose others may not, it’s a personal choice as with most things you can buy where you have options.

It’s my favourite on a roadster. Back in the 50s and 60s when I was a kid it was the classic combination.

Sometimes was referred to as ā€œThe choice of Gentlemenā€
Then I bought one…so that was binned.

Anyway, 'tis also often claimed Red Ones go much faster…so get a roller brush out.

0-60 in 6 seconds. G’teed Instant.

But seriously…it’s generlly sought after and they sell well.
The big thing these days is condition first, colours 2nd.

I love that colour combination. It is a classic.
And second to that in the classics department is my Copper Red with Havana leather.
But it’s colours so we can’t all agree…

A worn out tatty tan interior can look terrible. The paint on the dashboard can flake off, the tan factory carpets and doorcards end up looking very grubby. The factory leather was quite poor quality. On the other hand, black cloth interiors tend to be more robust, and clean up well.

A worn out tatty interior will look terrible in any colour.

1993 Tan interior doing very well at 146,000 miles.

The seat leather seems especially robust, but needs the driver’s bolster given a bit of TLC but it’s just a bit worn, not perforated.
Apart from that (a bit of UV hood down discoloration over almost 30 years) no complaints from me.
Gave the carpets a professional machine shampoo a couple of years back, came up lovely & as new.
Then again, it’s all down to ownership care, and I’m ā€œonlyā€ the 4th owner including Japan.

Yes, but a lot of V-Specs in the UK have had the seats recovered (often by the importer, so the first UK owner has no idea), whereas most cars with cloth interiors are still on their original covers. The ā€œleatherā€ Mazda used isn’t a real leather; its a composite of leather fibres to give a uniform appearance.

Torn cloth seats also possible, but my experience, over more that 2 decades, is that its the post-1995 seats that wear through, rather than the earlier seats.

BRG is such a classic colour and will always be in demand. Surprising how many shades of BRG there appear to be!..Google image search BRG and you get an incredible array.

Not sure what my green is called on my Mk1 but its my favourite colour (even though I am actually colour blind with green/brown/red etc!)

VR-Limited green is ā€œExcellent Green Micaā€

Great classic combination and there will be plenty of available buyers

British Racing Green is Traditionally the Coolist Colour :sunglasses:

But as Poster Observed…What is a True British Racing Green Colour

Tan Leather Looks Cool :sunglasses:

Because It Looks Like Its the Colour of Real Leather :+1:

But I Kinda Like the ā€˜British Racing Green’ with the ā€˜Black Leather’ pics

Bullit is ā€˜Orange’ with Black Leather Interior [NB]

Folk Say ā€˜Cool Colour’…Some Seem to Kinda Like Her Colour

So I Suppose ā€˜Horses For Courses’

Do Adaptations and Create Your Perfect MX5

Because Me Thinks the Perfect One Has Yet To Be Created

And Unlikely Since Electrification :smiling_face_with_tear:

So Us Chaps and Chapesses Kinda Have a Duty of Care

Or Pass Them On To Those New Owners Who Will

Traditional BRG is almost black in cerain light.
I’ve stood beside a 20s LeMans Bentley and thought it was black till the sun shone.

BRG is really whatever people want it to be.

All I was really trying to put across wasā€¦ā€œAll things considered, I’m quite happyā€
But thanks for the knowledge.

Isn’t British Racing Green Shamrock Green? The story is that a car dealer entered the the Gordon Bennett trophy with a souped up Napier, which came in a sort of light green. He was disqualified because he used relatively light weight French tyres (the rules were that you were only meant to use parts from your own country). The next year he won it by default, because everyone else crashed. So Britain got to host the race.

Street racing was illegal in Great Britain, but the rules were more flexible in Ireland. So the driver lobbyed Irish MPs in order to get a new law in place to permit the race to go ahead. Britain didn’t have a national colour, as red, white blue had already been allocated to Italy, the US and France. Shamrock green was selected as a way of saying thanks to the Irish.

Mines silver with red leather and I thinks its the best but its personal choice just enjoy it till its time to sell

I like BRG/Neo Green with tan. It’s a shame the leather on the seats is not of very high quality, and that lots of hoods get swapped for black when they’re worn out.

The original hood on the 1990 Eunos Roadster V-Special was black, not tan (just a tan hood boot).

How long to you actually expect upholstery to last over multiple decades and say 10 owners while exposed to the elements and hundreds of bums on and off them in an affordable bean counted Roadster? People wearing studded denims etc do not help either.
That’s why there is a huge market in leather/ upholstery after care products.
Saw the interior of a 1 owner Vauxhall Lotus Carlton recently and the black hide front and back was falling apart. Cleaning and feeding was all it would have needed.
I’ve been treating my seats with Gliptone products for 16 years and the pax seat in particular has patina but is undamaged, and the driver’s bolster could do with some intensive care eg sanded and coated but the squabs etc are solid.
