A year past July, a 17 year old on a motor scooter chopped straight across my path on a roundabout. He was lucky I was at a low speed, the side of his scooter took the impact, and he had a relatively mild tumble. . Gravel rash and cuts to his ankle and elbow. And some shock.
That is when I decided to obtain a dash cam.
First I bought a cheap eBay dash cam at £9.95. Same shape and appearance as the basic Nextbase 112 model. Similarity ends there.
I put the video up on Youtube. At a throwaway price, it does a job. Annoying audio rattle...., I never kept it long enough to track down the cause.
Then I bought an Old Shark 1080p model. Currently on Amazon at around £45.
An impressive and solidly built piece of kit with a good lens,
and metal body.
After thinking things over, and considering that with just a soft top between the camera and light fingers,
I realised that whenever I parked up the MX5 for a while I'd need to remove the dashcam.
I therefore decided to buy a Nextbase 312GW because it had a magnetic mount.
This means that I can leave the suction cup mount permanently on the screen, rather than have to either
unscrew the camera from a screen mount, or remove the suction mount itself.
The 312GW has much the same quality video as the Old Shark. with the addition of GPS, so that all
your speeds are on record. A possible double edged sword. .
