Dinitrol Rustproofing underseal Mk3 at Chassis Clean

Last month we took our new-to-us Mk3 to be cleaned and rustproofed at Chassis Clean Altrincham http://www.chassisclean.co.uk and thought we’d share a few pics with you.

I’d looked hard at doing it myself but decided there were too many twiddly bits to get at and covers to remove without a ramp or pit. Richard and Jack did a fantastic job, removing shields, cleaning, masking and spraying Dinitrol.

I took the pit and car shots at their place and the wheels-off pics later at home.

Hi

Looks like they’ve done a great job.

Nice looking car.

Hi,

Thanks, yes, they do a great job and well recommended. I left it with them 3 days, it gets stripped and washed first day, then dried over the pit with heaters before spraying with Dinitrol cavity and surface wax.

I did my own once over a borrowed pit with Waxoyl and their first spray pump (looked like a bike pump) woah, it was messy Shock but did a pretty good job. I’ve not got those facilities now though.

 OMG! what a fab job!

Thanks for posting this as I have an 02 2.5 MX 5 and will be calling them in 2 months

Cheers Jonny

Looks like a very thorough job.

That looks great , and they have done a great job,but what was the cost ??? and do you have any pic’s of them attacking any of the surface rust, before covering it?

Pit ?, you don’t need a pit, this is a great bit of kit, for the home fettlers…

Chassis Clean did mine  nearly five years ago, still looks great

The standard for an MX5 seems to be £410.

While the underside of my mk2 needs some TLC, and that is a lovely job, it’s a bit too far for me.

£410, Rolling eyes and it costs just over £100 for the stuff, so £300 for doing it, my god i was in the wrong game.

£300, then take out £60 vat, then your tax, then your overheads of pit and premises etc, and you’re left with less than £100 a day for doing a not-too-pleasant job.

I’ve done 2 myself, time consuming, very messy, nowhere near as thorough and the material was just the one type of Waxoyl which I had to re-apply regularly. Not the way to save money compared with doing your own oil changes and brake jobs. OK, if you have a ramp or pit and can do it bit by bit with good materials when the car happens to be clean and dry it may be the way to go.

Our car’s probably somewhere around mid cost for an MX5 and £400 on Dinitrol whilst it’s still in excellent condition is money well spent in my book Smile

Hi, yes, that was nearly a year ago, the cost is long forgotten and the car is just as good now as then. Well worth doing if yours is in good condition and you’re thinking of keeping it. Come to that, if we were selling it I think a prospective buyer would be reassured if he took a look under the car.

Here’s another thread from Ian who had his done going on 3 years back, we were chatting a few weeks ago and he is still very impressed, http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/12297.aspx

Chassis Clean performed the Dinitrol treatment on my Red un in 2009 still looks great today, well chuffed with them paying good attention to getting into all the box sections, wishbones, and crossmembers.

I did my MK1 last year and what a messy job it was, I think in the end I got more on me and the floor than what went on the floor pan of the car.  Looking at those pictures I think next time it wants doing I’ll contact Chassis Clean to see if they can get clear Dinitrol and if so I’ll let them do it.

Is there anywhere near Portsmouth that can do the job as well as Chassis Clean? I’d be very interested to know if anyone has any experience.

I dinitrolled mine a year ago, owing to the way that the dinitrol goes on it was a remarkably clean job, much cleaner than using say waxoyl and much easier to apply as well. The finish is much more professional looking than waxoyl too. I’d happily do the work myself again and that was just using axle stands, a pit or 2 poster would make the job even quicker.

I will be taking my MK2 to Chassis Clean on Monday 8th October.  The have previously done My 280 Brooklands (Capri) and a Peugeot 306. Top guys & long lasting professional job.

Nice pit

Looks good, like the drying stage! Invaluable with the summer we’ve had!

Numpty question Embarassed… does it cover the sills? I am in need of my sills being done so if it does help in protecting them it is well worth it, I have checked my front chassis rails but only from the top and they look fine so would be good to protect them too … assuming they are fine underneath (fingers crossed)

This looks fantastic-I am picking up an 09 coupe today and would like to do the same - does this application affect corrosions warantees etc? what was the cost?
