We are carrying forward the planned drive that I had to cancel due to snow in February - and keep our fingers crossed the weather is kind to us!We will meet at Tesco Car Park, Ashby de la Zouch, about 11.00 (will confirm exact departure time nearer the date) for a 60ish mile drive and I've rebooked a table for lunch at:
The Appleby Inn - http://www.theapplebyinnhotel.co.uk/Appleby Parva, South Derbys, DE12 7AP There is an enormous car park and I’ve heard good reports of the food!
I have booked the table for 1.30pm, the Sunday lunch menu is £10.95 for 3 courses, and the details are on the website.
I hope all those that were going in February can still make it, and perhaps a few more too! Could you I ask all those who would like to come to add their names on this thread as normal, or call me on 07795 677929.
Paul has been to a pub on the outskirts of Ashby today and they will do us a bacon or sausage cob, with unlimited tea or coffee, for £4 a head. Since we enjoyed a similar thing on an outing last year thought it might be worth sourcing! So, are you up for it folks? The pub is actually off the roundabout at Junction 13 A42, so very easy to find. I have made a provisional booking for the time being.
Very pleased you can make it this time Hilary and David, looking forward to hearing all about the holiday! And even more pleased the car is on the road again Rich - brilliant news!!
When is the sausage / bacon bap stop? If we are having a 3 course lunch at around 1.30. Myself and Jan would be happy with just the coffee. Well I would find it hard to resist a bacon bap but with a 3 course lunch looming I must.
The plan is Colin to have coffee and/or sandwich at about 10.15 before we set off on the drive. The restaurant can’t take a later booking for lunch but I thought that by the time we had all got drinks and ordered it would be getting on for 2pm before we actually eat. The pub in the morning are quite happy to just do drinks if that is all people want at 10.15. At least we will be meeting somewhere to use the toilets before we start the drive!
I have 8 cars, 15 people, on the list now, and hoping to see a few more at The Clock tonight who might want their names adding.
Thanks for the breakfast orders! The pub is called Flagstaff Island, Ashby, LE65 1DS (it’s a Brewers Fayre). It is situated next to the Premier Inn and just past McDonalds on the service road at the roundabout above Junction 13 of the A42. You will be able to see it sign posted Flagstaff Park off the roundabout, its the exit immediately before A42 Northbound, and you’ll be able to see the McDonald sign too. Drive down the service road, past McDonalds and then follow the road around to the right and we plan to park just round that corner. Could anyone else who wants cobs let me know please, we don’t have to pre order drinks. We will meet about 10.15 and aim to leave about 11.
The route is now 65 miles long, and we have found a good big lay by for a photo opportunity, not terribly picturesque but we will all fit in ok, and we should arrive at The Appleby Inn about 1.15.
I think thats it for now, you can always call me with any queries, 07795 677929.
