Electric mx5

with the news that petrol cars will no longer be allowed, when will the battery powered  mx5 appear.Keep your eye on the voltmeter!

  Please God NOOOOOO!

The only gripe I have with electric cars is that, as any pedestrian will verify, you can’t hear them coming!

27 March 2022 around 18:00 with launches in US, Spain and Japan on the same day.

I am more worried about the impact of electric powered motorbikes or god forbid electric chainsaws to replace my beloved Stihl 020T chainsaws.

Electric power currently(ha!) produces a result but it is so boring and lacking in character.

We all enjoy the character of the MX5 because it is one of the few areas of life where character can still be enjoyed.

Luckily most of us are now too old to be bored to death by this climate friendly mandate.

It’s already here…

Well I’m pretty old, pushing 74, and I’m not bored by it because I’d like to think that we are responsible enough to want to leave something worth having to the following generations.

Well that’s just fine - SELL YOUR MX5 NOW!!

That’ll do me.  Bring it on!

Yep, that looks like great fun - I’m in !

But who are we kidding - a road-going electric MX-5 won’t be anything like as exhilarating as that !

1991 factory prototype

16 batteries powering a 30kW motor.

What’s going to happen to the millions of diesel lorries and buses?

You realise of course that after that 9 second run the car probably had to be put on charge for 4 hours!

Very true !

I will, as soon as they bring back the local rural bus service which was withdrawn in 1984 and I first got a car because I NEEDED it!  You could sell one of yours though!

PS:  My MX5 is as frugal and environmentally friendly as many of the boring, mainstream alternatives!

Why? - I do very little mileage, genuinely care about the environment, spend most of my time saving and preserving things and love nature.

One has to have some pleasure in life though, wouldn’t you agree?

Most certainly!  I only use my car for essentials, shopping etc. and only do about 1200 miles a year max, but I might as well enjoy it at the same time, and like you I care about the environment, love nature and do all I can to saving and preserving things.  So, good for you my friend!

I suspect that most of us on here  are of the same mind, particularly the older men who like me have probably questioned ‘what it is all about’.

Differences of opinion are unfortunately inevitable where it is muted that responsible and decent behaviour with self sacrifice is somehow required for the sake of contemporary generations who don’t seem to care about anything aside from themselves - I will continue to struggle with that concept.
