Exhaust recommendations for an NC

  1. My model of MX-5 is: _NC _
  2. I’m based near: _Belfast _
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Exhaust (back box)

I am new here. I got my first MX5 a month ago, and I already love it. I would be very interested in recommendations for an exhaust, which sounds great without being obnoxious. TIA

The slippery slope to an empty wallet starts here.

Thanks for that. Some of these sound really good. :+1:

Hi,
If you put Exhaust NC in the search bar you will find huge amounts on the topic including mine and many others.
Just be “very” careful what you eventually end up doing as what seems good in the beginning can be a rather annoying noise later on in ownership.
You end up then trying to change something else to resolve a mistake you made.

I speak from experience on the matter.
Good luck.:+1::slightly_smiling_face:

BBR 185 (manifold with high flow catalyst, mid pipe and the GT back box)… perfection.

Thanks, I am just starting to do some research and I appreciate your input. :+1:

Roger that. :+1:
Another VERY important point is to consider what the “Spouse” thinks!!!
The Cobalt back box is very popular and I have that too.
It’s the front and middle sections that can cause more noise if changed.
Certainly a 4-1 header.
But you do gain a few more horses with a header and with a remap gain fuel economy, torque and drive ability too.
Just depends what you want.
All the best.

Cobalt here which was ok especially for the money (Boxed up in garage @ present)
But since went for a il motorsport back box
Expensive but very nice
Out of the 2 the cobalt had virtually no drone at motorway speeds but the il has a bit more but is also noticeably loader once run in .

Thanks, I am thinking about the rear section only, funds will not allow front and middle sections.

This is very popular and in stock.
Probably cheaper options but you do get what you pay for in my opinion.
Well made and should fit the bill as they say. :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

EDIT-Too many people have bought one, as now out of stock and on back order.

Cobra Road Version… LOVE IT!!
Nice deep tone now it’s “bed-in” and a lovely “burble” on deceleration. Quality exhaust…imo

I have been looking at the Cobra and the IL Motorsport exhausts, definitely at the top of my budget, but I could stretch to one of those…

Just sharing my NC previous owner installed Cobra and to me, I started to find it too loud but that’s with the hard top and with the top off that soon becomes an enjoyment.

Hi, several of us with Mk3s from Newtownards area have Jetex rear silencers fitted, no issues so far, well made and slightly louder than normal without being intrusive, it has wife’s approval,

I am selling my I.L. Motorsport back box only having covered 2700 miles if anyone is interested PM me.

Yeah can be loud at times, but having soundproofed the whole interior including boot prior to the cobra purchase its not to bad even on longer runs.

Anyone got any experience of the Scorpion back box?

Mazda MX5 MK3/3.5 2005 - 2015 Primary cat-back system (scorpion-exhausts.com)

Just an opinion, but probably not that many at that price. :flushed::man_shrugging:
