I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __stereo
I’m soon going to fit a double din unit. However will it look a bit after market? More concerned about the plastics and finish rather than the actual stereo, but I do know I want Apple Car Paly and wi-fi. Any recommendations. Thanks everyone.
From the units I have seen other members fit to mk3, mk3.5 cars - the replacement surround looks pretty good and seems to be a close match to the dash plastic.
If you look at some MK3.75 - they come as standard with a double DIN unit.
You could try to find a stereo surround from one of those if you really want factory parts.
As @MickAP says above, the Connects2 matches perfectly. Also, the DD unit that came in my 3.75 was smaller than standard DD like the one in @CBRDEANO picture. Dynamic Sounds offer kits which include the fascia, DD head and wiring harness, plus they also supply steering remote modules separately. (Note: the remote module I opted for also came with a wiring harness included).
One of those will not fit an aftermarket one as done it.
A few threads on here of what I and many others have done.
Mine is the WiFi connection with Apple car play.
Another +1 for the connects kit. Just one thing that tripped me up is the head unit is attached to slots on the surround which allows a perfect fit. First time I mounted it I had the head unit too far back so was convinced the plastic was not a great fit. My error, minor adjustment later all was good.
And… I bought a Pioneer headunit which is a big old thing. Sony do a more compact unit which would leave more room for cabling, which would have handy.
Also note, Pioneer do a cracking little digital amp for about £100. My volume is never more than half way now, and a big sonic improvement.
Mine has Bose so I just got the correct kit from Dynamic Sounds, including the Pioneer head unit.
Very easy to do and works perfectly, including the steering wheel controls. As others have mentioned, the most difficult bit is getting all the cables and connectors into the void behind the head unit, so a shallow unit would help.
Thanks, I’ve had a look at the site and only noticed that from your info so thanks again… Is the sound quality the same and your happy with the fit and finish? I think the finish is my main concern. I know the Bose isn’t great but I’ve always been happy enough with it.
I might look at doing the ‘Bosectomy’ one day, but it’s pretty involved. There are better amps and speakers than the Bose ones, but the new head unit is definitely an improvement.
Hi, I don’t think the Bose is too bad in reality and I do like my hi-fi an that. I guess it’s how far do you want to go isn’t. I have the BBR GT exhaust system and if I have the lid down, well that’s a top soundtrack! I have gone for a wi-fi version and I’m looking forward now to getting it installed.
Had mine in 2 NC’s, JVC head unit with Android Auto/CarPlay. The first one, non Bose, I upgraded the door speakers and lined the door void with matting to enhance the sound. Small improvement in sound quality, definitely better than the stock head unit.
Moved the JVC head unit in to my Bose equipped NC2 and the sound quality was noticeably a great deal better, a richer sound. The centre dash speaker helps tremendously with that, something not present in non Bose models.
