Fog light filling with water

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NC1
  2. I’m based near: __
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Front fog lights

Hi folks, one of my front fog lights keeps filling with water. I drained it for the MOT a month ago but it is already full of water again. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to stop it? I guess it’s coming in around the bulb but am happy to be proved wrong if anyone knows differently?
Thanks Mike

Can anyone confirm that RX-8 fog lights are the same as the mk3 MX5 please? I mean just the light not the surround.

They should be, they are generic and fitted in a lot of cars not only Mazda, and also a lot of RX8 is a direct fit in the NC.

The fog lamps themselves are unchanged across all NC versions. Those I took out from my 25AE NC3.75 and from my Niseko NC1 are identical.

Four ways for water to get in,

  1. via the breather tube, it might be pointing up instead of slightly down
  2. if the rubber ring-seal between bulb and lamp housing is missing from the bulb,
  3. if the bulb is loose,
  4. if the lamp housing is broken.

This pair of lamps came out of my 25AE last year when I fitted the Vinstar Fog+DRL kit..

As seen from inside the wheel arches;

As seen from underneath looking up at them;

Thanks for the reply that’s a great help. The photo’s are very useful to compare with the ones I’ve found online. Just £12.50 for a used pair with free postage which is a lot less than MX5 lights and I’ll get a replacement light, a spare light and a couple of spare bulbs.
