Thank you for the heads up on date of this show. I’ve been watching this Goblin Works Mod Shop series and have seen a green Mk1 MX5 in the opening sequence of cars modded.
The Goblin Works team find a deserving car owner who want their car modded. They take delivery of the car, make the changes (without the owner seeing progress) and hand it back at a suitable location. The cars modified so far have been on a budget limit of £10k, so it will be interesting to see what mods they do.
I hope they improve power output by adding a supercharger.

So far it’s been pretty poor, I can only hope they do a better job on the MX5.

I’ve not been too impressed with what they’ve done so far either. I’d be fascinated to know how the changes they make affect the annual insurance premium, especially as some of the owners are fairly young!!

Only times I’ve seen 5’s ā€œworked onā€ on TV shows…it did not look too good for the car in my view.
Still…not seen the Goblin thing yet. Not as if there is an oversupply of worthwhile Mk1 tubs to work with any longer.
Then again, a FK post code Ford dealer only 20 odd years back had complete ā€œbody in whiteā€ Mk1 Escort bonnets, boots, doors, Mk1 Capri panels, Mk1 Cortina panels and numerous now ā€œunobtainablesā€ crushed and skipped so perhaps I’m panicking too much. Oh, and two Escort Mk1 shells…what they were doing with them was a mystery.

It’s not a show I was impressed with. Do they still have the 2 guys and the girl working as a team? The American bike mad one got on my clack. Always wanted to do a bike up instead but that could have been another titled show they were involved in.

It was aired earlier in the year on discovery plus…found it a disappointing watch.

Far too much time focusing on the owner/scripted nonsense etc rather than the car. It had new suspension, full MTech turbo kit, service, wheels/tyres, wrap, mot, some interior mods before being handed back, along with all the original parts. Lots not shown on the program.

Oh, and a new roof

The hardest thing to insure is the ā€˜wrap’ mod. But with all mods declared and an agreed value it’s still less than Ā£150 a year fully comp.

Ah.
One of ā€œthemā€ā€¦I’ll not bother. Cheers.

One of ā€˜what’?

Contrived waste of time programs is ā€œone of whatā€.

Each their own.
OK with you?
Good.

They have ruined every vehicle they’ve ever touched. Terrible taste all three of 'em. Worst motoring program of all time.

Gee that went down well then. Glad I posted it :joy:

I saw this car on the ramps when they first bought it. For it to be back on the road is a major achievement! It was less than solid

I was referring to the series so far, not the MX5 which I assume you’re saying cost Ā£150? I’d be amazed if the Golf GTI with increased power and bespoke wrap, for instance, could be insured for that sort of figure, but if it can, I’d be interested to know who the insurance company are so I can try them out next time.

Yep, the mx5 with the turbo conversion and all mods declared was insured via Lancaster for Ā£150 but insurance is always location, driver age etc biased rather than power/mod’s biased.

Fine with me, simply wondered what you meant by ā€˜one of those.’
But basically you mean every car program on Discovery :joy:

No rot on this MX5, original solid sills, even had a scope in them and there’s no rust. You must be thinking of Helen’s own MX5…
