Hello from a new to the club South Wales member

Thought it was about time I said hello!

Owned a 1997 NA for a while, but only recently join the owners club and it’s about time I shared my love for the MX-5 with others with spring/summer in the not so distant future :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: (counting the days down lol)

I’m hoping to join a few runs and car shows this year, but you won’t see me until at least April whilst I get the car ready :joy:

Here’s Mcqueen who is currently tucked up in storage.

Hope to see you soon, thanks

Welcome SCOTTRS and ‘Mcqueen’ to membership :handshake:

Cool looking NA

From 2005 NB owner in Staffs

Curious how you came up with the name ‘Mcqueen’ as Bullit is named for her shape but also the late great actor Steve McQueen with a nod to his movie Bullitt [I just removed one of the ‘t’s]

Thanks for the welcome!

It’s named after Lightning Mcqueen from Disney Pixar ‘Cars’.

My son was well into the films years ago and said just after I bought it, “Lighting Mcqueen’s on the drive, Dad!” :joy:

Well….as a female …68 yrs in April [with no offsprings that I’m aware of  ]

Of course I’ve not watched the Cars movies :innocent:

Hmm……but as a film buff…..of course I have watched the Cars movies…….[that’s my excuse ….err…you know….research…..for anwsers in quizes ]

In truth Disney Pixar are remarkable with what they produce in these movies…….old lady brain just forgot ‘Lightening Mcqueen’

But thinking he looks more like an NC than an NA or NB …….doesn’t matter……cool name

Influences from childhood ……Disney is entirely responsible for me always having show type Cocker Spaniels due to ‘Lady and The Tramp’ [hoping to get number five this year :crossed_fingers: ]

I used to put it on all the time just so I could watch it again — I really do enjoy that film

McQueen definitely has more of an NC look, but I’m sure he won’t mind being named after a far cooler NA. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

As for childhood influences, anything car‑related from the 80s shaped me (the best era ever  ). Knight Rider, The Dukes of Hazzard, Smokey and the Bandit, and The Cannonball Run were my holy grail lineup. That Cannonball Run opening with the Countach LP400’s V12 roaring through the desert still gives me chills. :joy:

‘Childhood influences’

Yep……all of those and some how the song ‘Convoy’ is beginning an ‘ear worm’ now after reading your post

I for one think a black ND is a later version of KITT from Knight Rider [either that or the Batmobile :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: ]

Got Bullit because she reminded me of my late Triumph Spitfire MK IV [the middle attenna is a CB radio]

Whether NA, NB, NC or ND…….Mazda certainly knew what they were doing when creating the MX-5 :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Don’t think Triumph could have chosen a better name when it came to the ‘Spitfire’. Couldn’t have been more British! :joy:

Perhaps “Spitrust” would have been more appropriate. Seems not much has changed apart from reliability

Concur :joy: [late father born 1931 was 30 yrs RAF electronics engineer…too young to work on the Spitfire aircraft but many others developed afterwards]

My Triumph Spitfire motor vehicle went to rust heaven much quicker than my MX-5 is going

So again gotta respect Mazda

Er, that’s a 10 four rubber duck!
We got ourselves a Convoy, I mean a bunch of MX-5’s, copy that to the eye in the sky.

(Yes I know I do need to get out more, ideally in the Maz).

If you chance you can see the YouTube clip of Steve Mcqueen driving around in Ford Puma in San Francisco. I thought it was super cool at the time. How he managed not to knock over the extremely glamorous lady by his driveway as he rapidly reverse up next to his Mustang is all down to

128 takes and a budget to blow yer socks off. Ford always had a knack of getting inside your head with those glossy advertisements.

It was technically brilliant at the time and what a classic scene to use! It’s such as shame it was used with a bloody Ford Puma of all cars! :joy:
