Help Me Fix My Expensive Paperweight

Right, update time:

Battery fully charged and plugged into the car, the start/stop button continues to flash orange, I believe the battery was showing around 12.9v whilst in the car.

New issue: Remember how I said the Active Bonnet System light was intermittently flashing? (See pictures) I believe that its been hit whilst parked up at the garage or in the overflow car park (active pub), causing said flashing dash light.

They are coming over tomorrow to clear the codes and get it to work again, so will have that uncomfortable conversation then.

:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Oh wow! thats quite the light show you have there!

Yeah, it wasn’t the last time either :see_no_evil:

Few more questions:

  • Have you checked all the fuses (namely the 15A C/U IG1)?
  • Is the bonnet still flat (the active bonnet system deploys explosive struts to lift the back of the bonnet up)?
  • Is there any sequence to the flashes?

@ian.prossor

  1. I have not checked any of the fuses
  2. Bonnet is still flat
  3. No sequence, just random, from what I can tell

Check the fuses!
Don’t ask me why I know but if the 15A fuse I mentioned before has gone it will never start :upside_down_face:

Bonnet should be good then, I can’t find anything about that system going and not exploding so could very well be a fuse/power delivery issue

Sit there for a while and check, a lot of warning lights have sequences that give an indication of the issue without needing a code reader

@ian.prossor I only get the warning light flashing when the car starts, which it currently doesn’t, so will sort that out first then get back to you, thanks for the tips!

You should probably notify your insurance company, even if you don’t end up making a claim it’s best that you tell them sooner than later if your car is damaged.

Ohh god, do I really have to? Read some horror stories on this forum about telling insurance companies about any slight damage.

@ian.prossor Are there any fuse diagrams in the owners manual? Also, which one? Aren’t there two fuse boxes on the car?

I would check them all, main box is in the engine bay, the other is in the passenger footwell
Both have diagrams of the slots and fuse size on the inside of the lids (just get the orientation right)
There are some online too such as this:

As well as the online manual page:

I’d be surprised if it isn’t part of your terms for insurance (it is with my policy).
From what little I know of the active bonnet system, if it were at fault due to accident damage, I don’t think you’d want to end up footing the bill.
Still, hopefully it’s just the low battery been causing strange errors

Spoke with the garage, checking CCTV to see if we can find anything.

Yep, will get on the phone to them tomorrow then!

Cheers

just thought I would let you know what happened when I went to start my car after leaving it for it was actually 23 nights not 21 well it just started straight away not even the slightest hesitation. where does all this garbage come from that I read on here oh you will struggle to start it after leaving it for two weeks. after reading this on here I expected it not to start so I took a jump pack with me do people make these stories up or is it just pub talk

@rebel99 being honest, in the five years I’ve owned this car, I’ve left it for a month on multiple occasions and gone to start it, no issues whatsoever. Maybe pub talk, maybe from earlier models?

Who knows.

Update: Nope, not working. Cleared the code, problem immediately returns when you turn the car off, lock it and then go back to start it again.

Bonnet light also comes back on, so there is also that issue to deal with at some stage.

Checked all the fuses related to the engine and all other circuits, all fuses are good.

Garage thinks it might be a Starter Relay issue, anyone know where to start with that information? A fuse, a button, a port or loose wire I can check?

Cheers

Might be worth casting an eye over this. Obviously for the US market but maybe relevant.

@Roadster_Robbie thank you kindly, will have a look, if corroded, would clearing the code work? Just thinking, as holding the key to the start button changes nothing.

Do you have a copy of the workshop manual that you could share? Cheers

No, sorry.
