- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Cam you please recommend a good soft top cleaner/ protective products
I have used Autoglym Convertible Soft Top Clean and Protect Kit.
No issues with it all and it did the job.
I have also used Fabsil Gold, good stuff but it wears off in the areas I push down on when opening the roof. (Which I always do from outside the car )
I shampoo my mohair hood with a solution of baby shampoo and a dash of Milton Fluid in water, rinse thouroughly, let it dry, then waterproof with Fabsil Gold. (The dash of Milton helps kill any algae.)
Ditto Autoglym
No Experience Fabsil
There’s some good threads on here about cleaning mohair hoods, like this one.
I have largely followed the same process as @Dipstick - soak the hood down, fill a bucket about quarter full, add soap/shampoo and a good squirt of Milton fluid, then massage it into the hood with a soft-bristled nail brush in an area of about a foot square at a time. Rinse it down, then move on. Once you’ve done the whole hood, go back over it until the gunge stops coming out. Holy cow, did that get a lot of muck out of the hood! I part-opened the hood to let me get all the way down around the bottom where it meets the car - an old toothbrush helps - and, judging by the amount of muck in there, it was well overdue for a clean. You do have to be a bit careful with the hose, but it will drain fairly normally without soaking the inside.
After drying in the sun, I use the Autoglym sealer shown above. I did try the cleaner part of that kit, but the above method seems to work much better.
Best done on a warm summer day when you don’t mind getting wet!
Final step is to pull through the drains if you haven’t already, and I also get down and make sure the little drains in the bottoms of the sills and doors are clear with the end of a small cable tie.
I use Poorboys Natural Look on my Mk2.5 vinyl roof…also on the tyres, door panels and dash.
It is easy to put on, totally waterproof and does not clog the fabric. On the interior it can stay matt or gloss depending how you buff it.
I’ve been using it on the soft top for 5 years and I love it.
I have a PRHT but the wife has a Fiat 500c, red roof, and I use Autoglym on that and have no problems, always comes up good and clean and brightens the colour.
Hope that helps?
Cheers
Hi I have listened to you and bought the Poorboys product, how do you apply it to get such a great finish, and do you use anything before using it?
Not an expert but does it make a difference whether you have vinyl or mohair as to which product you buy
