How comfy?

Hi,

So looking to change my NC to a ND but I’m 6ft3 will it be too cramped in the cabin or is it as roomer as the NC?

Cheers

Far LESS roomier than the NC im afraid…

In fact the ND is the most cramped of all the generations, I’m 6"2 and did fit in my ND but it was tight… Word to the wise you will only fit (just) in the soft top version too…

The drivers side is roomier than the passenger side. Definitely go sit in one early.

So looks like the NC model for me when I do change. Cheers for that.

Cheers I will look at the later NC models then.

I have a 2014 NC and I’m 6ft tall. I actually need to bring the seat forward slightly to get a more comfortable reach on the wheel and pedals

I’m 6’4” in an ND, and now I’ve lowered the seat on Jass rails it fits like a glove. I wouldn’t say it’s roomy, but I don’t feel uncomfortable driving it for many hours at a time, and my head doesn’t rub the roof when it’s up or stick out in the wind when it’s down.

I agree that you really need to try one asap. I’m 6ft tall but a little wider than I’d like to be but I fit in very comfortably. It is really down to body shape and proportions of how your 6ft3 frame is made up.

There is always the compromise word - I’ve overlooked many things in the past if I really wanted a car but you won’t know until you get behind the wheel. You may even fit ok but not like the way it drives.

I really like my ND2 but haven’t driven any other variant to compare with. You will get a great car whichever you choose.

In my experience it isn’t just about your overall height, but about proportions and the torso : leg length ratio for both driver & passenger.

Some owners also don’t get on with the ND seat design and comfort over a longer journey. Whereas I’ve found both the NC and ND to be comfortable places to do 3hr+ stints if required. Again, it’ll be a personal thing and obviously very important to check before purchase.

So just go and try the ND and see how you get on. I also don’t find the ND “far LESS roomy” than the NC as has been said, but everyone’s mileage will vary I guess! Overall I much prefer the cabin of the ND, but again - it comes down to personal preference.

Cheers,
Steve

Check this video - 17:29 Doug addresses the size issue when driving. This could possibly be overcome with a seat lowering kit

I also find my ND2 very comfortable for long drives, (i am a small bloke) however, i usually have to get permission from my bladder before starting out.

Please don’t make a rash decision based on someone else’s opinion. Just go and try one and base your options on YOUR experience.

Absolutely I will but just wanted a general opinion before I looked in to it further.

I am 6ft - or maybe 5.11.5 now! I am picking up an NC next week. I found there was enough room for me to fit in it OK. I also sat in an ND and thought it was a tighter fit although I think I could have managed with one but definitely a snugger fit.

Having owned a Mk1 till recently for 16 years, and co owned a Mk2.5 ( wife’s) alongside, and having been invited many years ago now to the Mazda " VIP" day to drive prelaunch NDs, the most immediate impression I got was the ND is the Mk1 reborned in terms of snug fits. I’m a lowly 5 10" and I found them just right for me TBH…but I’ve only a 32" inside leg…unless I put a kilt on, then I’m a 6’ 6" oddly! So, in conclusion, you more wear an ND then sit in it…like a pair of kid skin gloves. Seats are narrower too, which was fine for me at the time before Ipiled on 3 stones due to health issues. But the ND cabin is a lovely place to be…must be said… Just a wee bit suss in quality here and there but…built a cost after all. But the ones I drove were pre launch imports…maybe they were improved later. It was not a biggy…just a side note was all.

Defo go sit in one and preferably get a test drive. It all depends upon whether you are long in the legs or the body. I’m 6’1", I have the seat 1 notch from all the way back and there is 2" of clearance under the RF roof for my bonce. One of my RF owning friends is 6’4" and fits in fine.

I love the fact that the ND is compact inside and out, it’s how sports cars should be and reminds me of when I owned an MG midget and triumph spitfire back in the 1970s. Of course if you can’t fit then you’ll need to look elsewhere. I’m 6ft and can get comfy enough, but we’re all different so you’ll need to try for yourself. Good luck.

As a six footer I found the ND cramped for shoulder width and headroom.

But worst of all my back cried “ENOUGH” after only about ten minutes in each of the three different NDs I tried a test drive in. Those seats were abysmal.

Compare this with my old Niseko NC where I was happy to drive all night from Holyhead to London with only a caffeine stop on the M6(toll).

The current 25AE NC is equally spacious and comfortable.

Just collected my ND1 this week. Am 6’2, echoing the points above. Go an try one is best course of action. There is more space in the soft top in my experience than the RF in height, but it is a snug fit. I am comfortable to sit and drive, but will be looking at the jass lowering rails to further improve things.

It’s horses for courses Richard. The seats in the ND aren’t abysmal just because you can’t fit! I’m glad you’re happy with your 25AE NC but many ND owners are ok with the seats and appreciate the way the car drives. My advice to the OP was to test drive, because we’re all different. Simples.
