how many miles off a full tank

completely forgot to ask, is the Interceptor the 7 litre one, I guess 10mpg?

strange really. i never used to top up the tank on the mk 2  1.8. till i had done 340 miles…so thats near enuff 40mpg +. i DONT consider myself slow…and sit in traffic part of the time.

mk3 i reckon to get about the same and thats 2 ltr…am i doing sumthin wrong…

note…just filled up and checked  38.54 litres = 8.477 galls / 306 miles = 36.094694 mpg…average.

2005 Mk 2.5 (1.8i variable valve).   I get 285 on my commute to Cambridge (20 miles of mixed country, villages and town).   I got about 340 on a touring weekend in Norfolk.   I fill it to the same level every time (stick nozzle in, fill 'till it cuts out) and it seems to take slightly more than 40L.

Yep ! 440ci so 7.2 litre , though if it was the 383 ci , 6.2 litre I don’t think it would be much better.

wow, full fat interceptor, have seen one close up, its 75% bonnet if i remember rightly. anyways up, the mk2 5 tank holds 50 litres, just under 11 gallons, perhaps 450 on a moderate fill…

My 1.8 Mk 3 will do between 270 to 370 on a tank. The first is when I’m having fun and the second is when driving sensibly (soooo boring).

I got 352 miles (just) going from Dover to South Shields, but I can get it under 200 if I drive it properly

under 200, my brother gets 220 out of his mk1 mazdaspeed supercharged, and he lives on the red line.

Last week I somehow got 250 miles from a tank, and I probably could have squeezed it to 265+. I usually get about 230-235.

Crikey - I consider myself very frugal then. Either that or my car is running so unbelievably well.

I recently went down to Bromley for the Motor Pageant and averaged 37mpg from Nottingham. That was without trying. 65 - 70mph all the way and a long 1 hour queue to get into the event itself. Have to say though, since my new Powerflow exhaust, the car runs like new and I have noticed an acute improvement in fuel consumption now that the engine is balanced and breathing properly !

She may be 16 yrs old but she’s a bute !

‘Eunice’ - 1993 Eunos Roadster 1.6 maunaul in Neo Green, as good today as she’s always been !

just filled up again…37.6 mpg  thats on a daily commute .mixed traffic.town.bypass etc…

surely it cant be my driving…can it?

I have just done a round trip to Silverstone and back so mainly and did 276 miles (445km) on 7.3 gallons (31.5 lts)/ (3/4 of a tank) which worked out at 38 miles to the gallon. Normally round town I get about 400 km out of a tank.

I use an iphone app to track my mk1’s mpg (its called Road Trip) and since January this year my average mpg is 30 but I usually get about 240 miles to a tank.

Best ever was 276 miles on a tank. Worst was 185 when my oxygen sensor died haha!

hmmm an mx5 thats eco electric, ye thats what i need, lotsa mpg

270 miles on a full tank is fairly normal for me. My daily commute is 16miles each way, 10 of which are on a dual carriageway. I reckon I could probably get 300 on my commute if I drove a bit slower, but that isn’t much fun. I did get about 330 out of it at Easter on a drive up to the Lake District. Obviously longer runs are more fuel efficient, especially on motorways.

I got back from the Kent on Sunday evening having been down there camping for the weekend for the Bromley Motor Pageant on the Sunday. From leaving home in Nottingham early on Friday afternoon, razzing through tuhye backroads of East Sussex on Saturday, the run into Bromley itself and then returning home Sunday evening - 39.8mpg. Not bad for a 1.6 manual lady of 17 years old with minimal camping gear in the boot !  Can anyone beat that ?

I can get over 500 miles between fill upsBig Smile

Well I do cheat, as my car is duel fuel

I can get over 300 miles off my petrol tank (48L) and 200 miles off my LPG tank (38L)

I currantly pay £0.611 per Ltr for Autogas and getting 100 miles for £10.00 of gas

A smidge off topic as it’s for a Civic not an MX5, but my GFs Civic (1.6 110bhp) had done an average of 38mpg since she got it. Then I did an eco-driving course. My first drive in it was 52mpg. Her first drive after watching me was 51.7mpg. This was on the combination of B roads and city driving that is her normal commute. With just city driving I can easily get it up to 54mpg. 3rd gear at 20mph 4th gear at the high 20s or 5th gear in the low 30s seem to be best for low consumption in that car.

The trick is to plan ahead - using the same observations you’d use for normal safe driving, but reacting in a way to reduce throttle and brake use. Never compromise safety to save fuel. There were also a load of hints and tips that applied specifically to my driving style

It’s not changed the way I drive the MX5, because I drive that for a laugh, but it’s saving well 20% of the fuel bill on the Civic. If I had a serious commute it would be saving me a lot of money.

where do you fit the fuel tank for the gas LOL my fella has duel fuel but that is in a vectra estate ive had Pratricia a year now and I still haven’t done 300 miles out of a tank and shes been scotland and back (which is when we thought we were going to do it) but failed
