how many miles off a full tank

High 39’s on a long run is about what I get but then we dont really have a car like a 5 to worry about consuption do we, its more about enjoying it. I tend to check it every now and then by brimming the tank bt fill ups to see what the mpg is as it is a good indicator of how the car is running.

Prior to a tour of Scotland last year I started a petrol log and recorded an average of 44.9 mpg with a best of 49.1, over 1534 miles. I was not driving like a Vicar either on the way there and back, and those lovely open roads once there.,

Don’t forget that filling right up increases weight , therefore uses more fuel. Confused

A bit of weight will affect it a little I agree, but I cant be bothered to make extra trips to the petrol station, so I fill it up, drive round and when it gets to just below 1/4 of a tank I just fill it up again. This I have just done and it included town driving, a cross country drive  to Castle Combe and back, a thrash round the track for 15 minutes while I was there  and I got 35 mpg bar a couple of decimal places so I am happy with that.

A full tank of 48 litres of petrol weighs around 35 kilos or 5.5 stone.

I got just over 300 miles out of a tank in France and on the drive home a couple of days ago, but it not normally that good. I suppose it could be driven more sedately, but where’s the fun in that? Stick Tongue Out

I’ve just purchased a mk3.5 20th anniversary and have only filled it up once, so far I’ve done just over 300 miles and still got a quarter of a tank left.

Is this good?

managed 33 mpg last week, short shifting and having a featherlite foot

average about 26-28
, best is 350 miles out of a full tank but normally only keep half full as keeps the weight down

First refilling after buying 08 reg 1.8 RC

fuel light came on at 300 miles, put 40 lts in to refill ttank that nealy 35mpg:-)

Ragging it - 200ish

Making progress - 280ish

Like My Mum - 330ish projected (got too bored to finish the tank)

well. going up to jockland for the rally, FULLY loaded…38.97 mpg

coming back even MORE fully loaded 39.58.    ok so i was cruising on the motorway at 65-70 occasional overtakes at 80 ish m’lord.  but very impressed with a 2 litre .

any better???

steve

Last weekend we went to Tenby for three days, 474 miles in total no motorways 400 miles top down, 40.10 mpg.

Normal round town driving returns 32 mpg.

I just had 320 miles out of a tank on my mx5 mk1 1.6

I got 35mpg on my last motorway run. That was to Plymouth and back though, so the huge hills on the A38 would have had an impact on that, as I didn’t let them slow me down, so probably used a fair bit more. I think if I did a long distance eco-run getting 40mpg would be do-able. I don’t drive it often enough to worry nowadays as it is no longer my main car.

that doesnt count , coming back was downhill lol

interesting post.  I’ve recently been conducting a comparrison between regular fuel and shell V-power.

my average on normal run of the mill unleaded (But not supermarket fuel) was 36.7 mpg.  Worst 34.6 mpg  Best 38.1 mpg

Using V-power my average was 40.1mpg  Best 42.8 mpg worst 39.8.  Seems to work rather well to me and it goes like a stabbed rat on the shell rocket fuel to boot Big Smile  Average range on regular unleaded is around 330 miles.   V-power the region of 350 miles.

I’ve tried V-power in previous cars with mixed results.  Fiat cinquecento sporting gave improved performance and improved mpg.

Ford fiesta 1.25 zetec gave better performance but average mpg was reduced from 38mpg to 35 mpg.

Lifes too short to worry about how many miles to the gallon you get.If you want fun or speed, you have to pay for it.Smile

Driving gently on a run, my supercharged 1.8 barely scrapes 200 miles or around 29mpg to a tankful of super-plus, driven with gusto it will drop even further, I dont really want to think about it too much but am guessing on a dry Nurburgring (hopefully) I can expect to see one lap taking 5 Litres or around 12-15 mpg Cry

But it is worth it Wink

thankyou mr beavon, i know where your coming from …it was just an observation.!

Hi

Going down to Dover to get the ferry sitting at about 70 on the motorway and being pretty gentle my mk3 2L managed 43mpg. I had swapped the battery the previous evening so that would have reset the ecu.

Normal use it is giving me 33mpg.

All the best

Keith

Not so much italian tune-up as a scottish de-tune! Big Smile
