Undoubtably there will be a few collectors out there that keep chopping and changing for the next thing so how many sealants and waxes have you got?
Wax
Swissvax Best of Show - one of my first ventures into high end boutique ones.
Migiilore Primo V1 - among my favourite for the container alone! Bought this long before Migilore was common in the UK.
Couple of Autobrite ones
I have a few others but these don’t venture out often I have sold a few to although they have gone to fund my latest new wax due to land in the UK in a week or so which has been a special purchase for my best part of 10 years doing detailing as a hobby! It will also mean no chopping and changing!
Sealants
C2 V1 and V3
Carpro Reload
Zaino multiple variants - never felt it lived up to the hype in brutal honesty.
Inevitably there will be some I have missed
Coatings - Tried a few liked them but felt cold some might say “boring”.
Have any favourites? Overall I am still a massive wax fan at heart!
Safe to say I like my waxes. I’ll be honest coatings are better but I get so much more enjoyment out of waxing. I don’t tend to stock so many coatings as they have a shelf life and don’t last forever - I buy when a customer specifies a certain one).
Some of the products look good but I struggle to separate how good they are from the fanboy buyers that give honest views.
Additionally, having provided fair constructive criticism to some of Jason’s marketing of his products he does not take it well considering I won a competition and the amount of lies he produced was unbelievable.
His childish behaviour has now cost him dear about £2.5K…
ChrisR that is part of the problem rarely have i seen someone provide a fair independent review without owning lots of other ones (not to say that is not bad) but i have seen reviews that 70+% focus on the container for flip sake.
Another problem with many reviews i have seen is there is no assessment of durability or looks weeks down the line most are done straight after application. For me imo any wax looks good on the day of application following any gassing etc. the real test is 3 or maybe 4 weeks initially after application.
The final nail in his coffin for me as it were is after he got challenged by Gordon Muir (I am probably 90% sure you know who this is) and the responses were pretty poor from Jason (additionally it was the main reason Jason left DW as he threw his toys out the pram when challenged (which is rather similar to what happened to me)).
It’s tough talking about waxes. On my list my favourite to use is actually britemax vantage based on smell and ease of use. The one that seems the most durable is fusso coat followed not far behind by autoglym HD and fk1000p And bouncers 21. Premium authentic is also a very nice wax to use but doesn’t last so well.
notice i I didn’t mention much about def wax, swissvax or in fact zymol… All of which cost considerably more. There is too much brand snobbery going off amoungst some detailing circles.
Id been reccomended def wax for a while and durus in particular as I don’t personally see much point in applying a wax that isn’t very durable - unless it’s for Concorse shows etc. Durus is marketed as been a more durable wax For those that don’t know. It smells nice, comes in a lovely glass pot wkth a wooden outer box- velvet lined and it works well. However, I don’t think it spreads as easily as some cheaper waxes. It smells nice but so do some cheaper waxes, and durability I’ve not had it long enough but it doesn’t keep the car very clean like more synthetic waxes do. In fact, it’s a real dust attractor. Did it live up to the hype? No. Doesn it feel special using it? yes- loveley presentation but how much does this actually matter?
Crystal Rock- hmmmm, very nice wax. Smells good, comes in a silk pouch and certificate (so does zymol glasur at an eighth of the price).
Its hard to judge this one as it does work extreamly well but is it worth £800? In my opinion no. Many of my customers opt for the upgrade. It’s a great way to have a boutique wax without paying £800 for the pot. I charge an additional £50 for crystal Rock wax upgrades. It isn’t as easy to put on as some of the other waxes on my list as it requires a bit of hand heat and you actually need to massage it into the paintwork (like you do most zymol waxes). I find it doesn’t spread well without being hand applied. One thing I do love about it though is you can leave it to cure as long as you want and it won’t be any harder to remove. In fact I generally leave it on for a few hours and remove the wax last thing.
One thing about waxes and people around detailing circles is that people often make reccomendations based on what other people have said and have never actually tride them themselves. If anybody wants to ask me about any of the waxes I’ve used I’ll tell them. I won’t tell you about ones I haven’t tried though.
Out ut of that list the most disappointing products have been pretty much any tning dodo juice related. I know people have their own opinions and lots of people like dodo juice but I’ve not liked the ones I’ve tried. They just don’t seem to last.
I too see no real differences in these boutique waxes…in short, Bilt Hamber remains my favourite …I too will always go for durability…my clients want that too
Some wax too often though…I gave my mate a full large container of Soft99 Authentic for Xmas…Hes finished it all!!
This is all good banter guys…Jon…We must meet up soon!!
