I found a wire - with a spade conector

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NB
  2. I’m based near: __Glasgow
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ a wire!

Under the car today working on getting a welded exhaust bolt off - see Sportex thread shortly for that, but I found this wire as in the pics. It’s at the rear of the car.
Everything on my car works fine, can’t see anywhere it should be and just wondering if anyone knows what it’s for for anything about it? Actually noticed it last weekend, but never had my phone with me - I’m 3 floors up!

That looks heavy enough to be an earth strap. Because the battery is in the boot you’ll have an earth going to the chassis, can’t remember it’s exact location from my old Mk2.

Looks like the same issue I had a while ago. Check out this thread 2001 NB-FL Ground Wire - Where Does It End?

No definately a spade connector on the end and nothing anywhere for it to connect to.

I’m wondering if it’s a “spare” for rear fog light as in the MK1 - just a guess really.

I’ll be back under it later today to grind off the remains of that bolt and hopefully get my new backbox on so will have another closer look. Got some heat-resistant paint (600 Celcius) to treat the heat shield, which has some minor surface rust in places. Like everything you start one job and then find there’s something else that might t need to be done for a while, but once you’ve got access and the car up on axle stands it makes sense to follow through with them.

Yip that’s it
Had a look at the pics in that thread and it is that one exactly that you have circled in the picture. Strange that I’ve no electrical issues if an earth is missing, but will see about getting it connected up again - exhaust is the priority.

Two weeks without being able to drive her as only have weekends when it’s dry to work on here, fortunately, I’ve the company car I can use - even though it’s a 1.5 diesel Insignia with lightfoot - bloody annoying!

I didn’t have any issues other than my battery dying (could be a coincidence). I managed to sort mine out without having to get the car in the air too which was a bonus!

Never got around to it, but I got the exhaust installed

Can clearly see where it should be attached, will have a look at it next weekend - provided it’s dry!
