- My model of MX-5 is: __MX5 NC1 2010
- I’m based near: __Tiptree in Essex
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __bluetooth that is easy to put into car, so I can listen to the music from my Iphone and take and make calls hands free
Beat me to it!
I have one like this, cheap, bit fiddly but works fine. Connects with my Android phone, make calls plays music and you can take it with you to another car!
really!! I spoke to a guy in Essex who comes out to fit bluetooth in and he quoted £395.00 thats why I thought I would ask on here… do I simply plug it into the lighter socket? do I then need to get leads to attach to the phone?
If you are even considering paying £395 - you could fit a 7" double DIN head unit with the correct facia and steering wheel controls for sub £300.
Then you would have android auto/apple carplay
Music from a micro sd card
and many other functions of a modern head unit.
Thank you I will keep this in mind if the above needs replacing!
out of interest where did you buy this and do you know of someone or a company that can fit it?
I got the head unit, the facia plate with wiring loom and other bits off ebay.
Fitting was almost plug and play ( took a saturday afternoon to complete )
That also included fitting the reversing camera
mmmm I dont think that is for me, not my bag to even know where to start…
No leads, bluetooth to phone then FM band to ICE unit.
Roughly where are you in the country ?
Perhaps someone can suggest a fitter/supplier when an appx area is known.
Im in Tiptree in Essex, anyone know someone near me that won’t rip me off?
I am a complete idiot and I was able to replace my head unit in my NC1, these are the tips I have since doing it:
- Get a fascia kit from MX-5parts or similar vendors for under £50, they come with the kit to fit single and double din stereos.
- Get the head unit radio adaptor harness which is just plug and play (mx5parts and other websites sell them)
- Follow How to Mazda Miata MX5 Bose Car Stereo Removal 2006 - 2013 replace - YouTube to know where all the screws are (there are a few)
It’s an easy process that should be less than 30 minutes if you take your time to remember each screw, there is quite a bit of pulling the car apart but it’s not a hard task at all. The hardest part I found was getting the aircon unit wiring to unclip from the fascia, once that was off it was easy.
this is what i use, very small and neat, one button operation

works pretty well
its got battery in it but for longer drives you do need a 12v socket thingy to charge it (mine is permanently on charge)
Hi, I got mine supplied and fitted by a Halfords Autocentre. Had to leave the car with them for two hours. But a very professional and good value (I thought) job from a National outfit therefore should give some confidence if you are at all nervous about the job. My car is an NC 2011. I also got a Brodit phone holder which clips to the left of the centre console so looks very neat. Halfords ran a wire from the new head unit to near the holder. Phone stays in the holder. Spotify, Google maps etc. controlled from the new touch screen in the dash or steering wheel controls for volume. Hope that helps.
Forgot to say the cost was £440 supply and fit. It also gives DAB radio.
If you have an aux-in socket next to the power socket, you can hard wire the bluetooth unit to your head unit, this will give much better quality than using a radio signal.
The unit I have also has a usb power out socket to charge your phone.
What brand/model is that head unit? If you use the plug and play wiring harness to iso adapter does the head unit switch off once the ignition is turned off?
I am considering the Atoto F7 WE which has wireless Android Auto but I have read on some reviews of cheaper Chinese brand head units that they can drain the battery.
Would be fitting to a MK3.
Eonon P04pro head unit with DAB adaptor.
Has been wired in to the connects 2 loom adaptor so it drives the Bose amp and speakers.
Yes it goes off with the ignition.
With many Chinese units - you can set how long the unit stays in standby ( for much faster boot up )
I have mine set at 2 days ( the car usually gets used every other day )
If the unit comes out of standby - it takes a bit longer to boot up next time you start the car.
Never had any issue with the battery going flat ( even after a couple of weeks of no use )
Thanks for the reply. Did you just need the £10 connects 2 loom adapter to make the steering wheel controls work or did that require another adapter?
